XP: C-section Mommas

I just wanted to see what everyone's experience was if you had a c-section.  How long it took you to recover, start feeling normal.  Any complications?  Oozing, Bleeding, emotions, etc....

I was induced & ended up having a c-section.  I felt a bit cheated out of a natural birth, but I am thrilled with my LO.  I noticed after my steri strips were removed, I have a bit of bleeding/oozing from the center of my incision.  I still have some soreness/tenderness above the incision & don't quite feel up to doing everything I feel I should be doing.  I am 3 weeks post partum & not sure if I'm alone on this!

Re: XP: C-section Mommas

  • I'm a month pp today and recovering very well. I had some incision bleeding in my first 2 weeks, and the doc had to take the steri strips off and give me some things to do at home to bring swelling down. My brusing (from 2 hemtomas) has faded. My incision has healed nicely. I still have pain on my lower right side and I'm not sure if it's from BFing, c-section, or hemotoma, but it can really hurt. Im talking to my doc about it at my next appt. Otherwise, I'm walking around with LO and doing the stairs, etc well again.

  • I'm 3 weeks PP and other than being a little tender around the incision, I'm feeling pretty good. I have a feeling waiting 3 more weeks before being able to resume normal activities is going to drive me crazy. I've had to do a lot of rocking, bouncing, and walking with LO, and I think all that movement has helped me -- even though admittedly I probably shouldn't have been doing as much.

Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns?

  • I was induced at 42 weeks and ended up with a section. I also was planning a natural birth, and felt incredibly cheated. MY DD is 11 wks today and I am still very sad about it. I don't think I will ever get over that, but my induction was also particularly awful (went in Sat at 8am, DD was born Monday 4am). My incision got infected and I had to go on antibiotics for 10 days. It was also oozing. You might want to get it checked out by your provider. I also got so much fluid pumped into me that it affected my breastmilk supply, which just added to my devastation. You are definitely not alone. We both ended up with healthy LO's but unplanned sections are extremely emotional and you should just take your time getting over it, physically and emotionally. Its okay to always be a little sad about how things turned out. If you want to talk about it more feel free to PM me.

  • I am almost a month pp from a repeat csection. I did not have any complications. They took my staples out 2 weeks ago and the incision is healing just fine. I was pretty sore the first 3-4 days home and didnt do too much. By 7 days though I was alright and actually drove lo to her 1week check up.

Everyone heals differently though, just do what you feel up to.

  • Normal!

I had a tough recovery and by 3 weeks pp I was just starting to move around on my own.  I was glad to have DH home for 2 weeks once we got home.

My incision is still tender and sore on some days...

P.S,  I'm in central NJ too...

  • I was probably 80% by 4 weeks and 100% by 6 weeks. I feel totally normal (except not feeling since they cut the nerve endings). I had an unplanned c-section since DD turned mid labor. I pushed for 3 hours but she never descended. I don't feel cheated because I got a perfectly healthy baby and that was my goal for labor. But your feelings are common. Just don't overdo it and it should heal just fine. Did you talk to your doctor about the oozing? Just to make sure it's not infected.

  • I'm just over 5 weeks PP from a scheduled c-section. My incision became infected at about the 2 week mark...lots of swelling and a little oozing from the center. I called my OB and got an antibiotic and took it easy. I'm feeling 100% now and I actually just got off the treadmill! Haha. Give it time...you'll feel back to normal soon. The key is not to push yourself too hard too soon.

  • I had a planned c-section but ended up going into labor and having my water break the night before. LO was born via emergency c-section exactly 12 hours before scheduled. I was out of bed about 15 hours later (I would have been out earlier but I was dehydrated so I had to stay on the IV and cath.) and walking around. Once home from the hospital I felt great and did not take any of my pain meds. I lost some steri strips early on but it never came open. There was a little drainage but nothing major. Sometimes my incision will still itch but it does not hurt. The worst thing is my stomach between my incision and belly button is still numb....

  • It took quite a while for me to get back on track. I had a lot of blood loss though. The incision healed well, it was just quite sore for about 4 weeks. I just had my 6 week appt and everything is good now, but it take a little longer to heal then i expected.

I called my Dr this afternoon & I am stopping in tomorrow after Lo's appt to get checked.  Hopefully it's not infected!

Thanks for all the input ladies !  :)
