My DD is 7 weeks and we have a Beco with the infant insert. I have so much trouble getting it on and off...I can't imagine trying to do it in public! There are so many straps. Did anyone else have this problem and did you get used to it?
Also, my back hurts a little when I wear her. Do you think this is something I just have to get acclimated to? I haven't done a lot of exercising since she was born - mostly just walking with her in the stroller.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated - I really want this to work!
Re: Tell me the Beco gets easier!
It gets easier! I had dd in my becco for 4 hours yesterday and it was great. she loves it, I love it, and I can get lots done while still being close to a happy baby.
The infant insert is a PITA. without it, I can get dd in and out while standing, partially release to bf, and even put her on directly from her car seat into the carrier while standing beside the car - before, I had to put her down on my seat and strap her in.
It doesn't hurt my back to wear the becco, although things were a little tired after 4+ hours walking around with her yesterday. ITA with the previous poster about checking how tight the fit is. it should be nice and snug. Oh, and my dd is over 17 lbs and I would not rate myself as super-fit.
Keep going! the becco is a great carrier. GL!
Are you undoing all the straps? W only undo the waist one and one of the shoulder ones where LO slips in. I just shimmy into it over my head and click the waist strap. Pick up DS and plunk him in, making sure his bumb is in the middle and his legs are comfy.
it does get easier. i skipped the infant insert part entirely, so i can't speak to that, but it's totally a breeze.
as for the pain - i find that happens when it's not adjusted for even weight distribution. next time there's someone to help i would get all in it and set up and hen adjust so that the weight is even on your hips and shoulders and LO is comfy - not too loose or too tight.
This is actually one of the ways I know there's been a growth spurt: have to adjust the beco! I
it.
I started wearing DS in our Beco Butterfly 2 when he was about 3 weeks old but it didn't become truly comfortable for me until he was almost 3 months old.
I found that I had to tighten the shoulder straps as far as they would go to keep DS right up against me. Also, make sure DD is sitting high enough - her bum should be at or just above your belly button. If you're doing a front carry, make sure the chest strap rests below the nape of your neck.
I'm still carrying DS in front these days. When we started out it would take me forever to get him adjusted. But now I can get the Beco on me, pop him in, and have him adjusted in under one minute.
Keep at it mama... it'll get easier!
It gets easier!
I never used the infant insert actually. I leave the back strap fastened so that when I put it on, I hook the waist belt then throw the straps over my shoulders.
It took several trips to my local baby store to get it adjusted right though. The straps that connect the carrier to your shoulder buckles took awhile to get right. One thing I learned when I complained about him getting too heavy was to put the waist belt lower. That helped a LOT.
