Who is using a co-sleeper?

This weekend Dh and I went to a baby safefy class and they suggested using a co-sleeper or a bassinet during the first 6 months of life. DH and I were planning on having LO sleep in his own room from the beginning (which is next to ours). They suggest it because they said that noises that parents make in the middle of the night, fans, tv, etc. help to keep the baby from going into a deep deep sleep and can help to prevent SIDS.

We were planning on using the ceiling fan in LO's room and now maybe a noise maker. My question is who of you are planning having LO sleep in the same room as you?

Re: Who is using a co-sleeper?

  • We have a bassinet that will be at the foot of our bed. I plan on BF'ing, so it will be easier to feed her, change her and put her right back into bed.

  • Ds slept in our room for 5-6 months, we plan on doing the same with #2
  • We have a co-sleeper that will be attached to my side of the bed.  There are several reasons for it and we plan to keep her in our room for the first 3-4 months or so with naps in the crib.

  • We had DS#1 sleep in a co sleeper in our room for about 6 months. I liked having him right next to me so I didn't have to walk into his room to BF him all the time. Once he started sleeping longer stretches we moved him into his crib in his own room with no problem. We will do the same with this baby, although I bet I will move them before 6 months.
  • We're planning on having DS sleep in our room for the first while. He'll either be in his FP Rock n' Play Sleeper beside the bed or the play pen bassinet -- whichever he likes best.

  • We have an Arms Reach mini co-sleeper that we used with DD and will re-use with DS.  It is hooked right up next to the bed.

With DD we used it for the first 6-8 weeks or so.  It was nice having her right there and being able to feed her.  We moved her earlier than we anticipated because she slept a TON better in her crib.  She has a cieling fan in her nursery and we used (and still use) a sound machine.

  • Yep, she will be in our room.  I can't imagine being able to relax with her out of sight for that long.  But thats just me.  Plus with Bfing that would be crazy getting up that much.
  • I have a bassinet that I will be putting on my side of the bed for the girls. I just thought it would make it easier for me and them, since I will have to wake them every couple of hours to feed, and I'm hoping to BF. Once they can sleep longer stretches, they will move into a crib in their own room.

     This.

  • Ww also will be using a bassinet in our room at first. Both my others were in my room for about the first 4 months. I like being able to just look over to check on them, makes me sleep better! Plus feeding is a lot easier!
  • We will also be using an arms reach co sleeper for the first few months.

  • We are having her in our room but not in a co-sleeper. I am still trying to figure out where the heck she is going to sleep!
