Son of a...

Just got a jury summons for October 21st. Hopefully my OB will write a note to try and excuse me. Right? RIGHT??

Re: Jury summons

  • They will probably excuse you when they look at you, honestly.  If you go to the summons, they won't bother you again for a long time.

  • Actually, I would go.  You'll likely get dismissed given how far along you are.  Doc note won't cut it unless you're on bed rest/legitimate medical disability.

  • I got a summons back in June and wished I'd gotten it later. I'm sure you will excused. Wont hurt to mention that you will need to attend several appointments of the next few weeks.

  • I'm not sure how it works for other States/Counties but my mom had a doctor's note when she got jury summons and got re-summoned a few months later.

But if you go in and are excused from jury duty then they can't summon you for a full year.

  • Waddle in and they will dismiss you. You should also be off the hook during your mat leave and some states don't call women with small children at home either.

GL! I got summoned to a federal jury in college and flipped out. If I had been stuck in court for weeks I would have had to withdraw from my classes, lose my tuition, and graduate late. They refused my request to get out of it, but I wasn't chosen anyway.

  • I have to report to jury duty earlier this month.  I had asked my doc for a note, but she said it wouldn't work.  She wasn't even able to get out of jury duty when she was summoned either.

So, I reported, walked around a lot and hit up the bathroom every 20 minutes.  Honestly, they will probably excuse you anyway if your name is picked at random.  If I was called, I planned on letting them know I need potty breaks every 20 minutes and need to walk around at least 4 times a day for 15 minutes.  We were all excused after 3 hours anyway so I didn't get to try it out.

    Good Luck!
