Carpel Tunnel and not being able to work?

I'm wondering if any of you ladies have dealt with such severe carpel tunnel that you needed to end work early? The braces and exercises are not working, and I am at my wit's end. I do a LOT of typing and writing and my hands are numb almost constantly now. Have any of you had the same problem? Advice at all? I am waiting to hear back from my Doctor's office...

  • I have it pretty bad too. Unfortunately I don't have any advice. I called my doctor and all they told me was to try to elevate my arms at night (as if I wasn't uncomfortable enough) and wear wrist splints.  If those don't work, they said that I can take Tylenol to help with the pain.  I wish I had more advice for you since those don't seem to be working for you. I've heard if you drink more water and eat less salt, that helps bc it will help you retain less fluid. That seems to be workign for me. Also, squeezing a stress ball helped me too. I still feel pretty extreme pain at night when I'm sleeping but it seems to lessen as the day goes on, especially after a hot shower.  Please try to hang in there!

  • I was in the same boat. I went and got shots in my wrists. Hallelujah! The best thing I ever did. My OB said it was safe since it doesn't get into your blood stream it does not cross the placenta. I looked on several sites on the internet before she told me it was safe and every place I looked said it was safe. The hand doctor had no problem doing it.

I had one done last Wednesday and I will have the other hand done tomorrow. You can't have both done at the same time if you are driving home. It lasts about 3 months.

This. Just this past Friday I had my injection in my left wrist. Had to go a week between the one in my right and the one in my left incase I had a reaction to the steroid but I honestly cannot believe I waited so long to do it. The injection itself is not that painful, they say your hand will be numb for a few hours after but I didn't experience this. It was a little achy/crampy and I couldn't make a fist for the first day but after that things were back to normal.

I would DEFINITELY recommend this. I was to the point of wearing my braces 24/7 and still in pain and this was the best thing I could have ever done for myself.

  • If you dont want to get injections I had acupuncture and it worked wonders. I has the same problem with thinking I would have to stop working early.
