Trying to Get Pregnant

Taking Charge of Your Fertility Book: Pro's & Con's?

So I've been reading on here that a lot of you really recommend this book, but doing some research on reviews, I'm reading some negative things also.  I know it's a personal choice, but just looking for some feedback of if it's something I should get or not....Why do you like it or not?  Thanks and Happy Monday!!

Re: Taking Charge of Your Fertility Book: Pro's & Con's?

  • GET IT!!! It is an amazing, imformative book. I have learned so much about my body... (DH has too because I keep reading him parts from it)

     Trust me,  it's worth it

  • I really think every woman needs to read this book.  There are so many things that we are taught in health class that are just so wrong!  I never realized how little I knew about how my body works until I read this book.

You probably don't have to buy it, check to see if your library has it.  I have been loaning it to all of my friends :)

  • I skimmed through it (and I didn't buy it, I got it from the library). It was very informative, but as long as you get the idea of how your body actually works, then it may not be necessary to buy it or read the entire thing, cover to cover.

I actually thought the tutorials on Fertility Friend helped me more, but then again, I had read TCOYF first.

  • Very much worth it! I wouldn't be as far as I am to understanding what is going on with my body without it. I thought I knew what my body was doing but boy was I WRONG!!! For sure pick it up, especially if you are TTC. GL!

  • I was given a copy when I got married (long story- pre Cana classes) and loaned it to a friend who still has it, and I miss it! Such a great read. I should get it back from her....

  • If you are TTC, grab a copy so you have a chance of getting your timing right. GL

  • I think it's definitely worth it. I bought it when DH and I had first started talking about eventually TTC. Not only can the book and method be used for achieving but it is good for avoiding and even just knowing about your body. It has taught me a lot.

  • I can't think of a single con. I read it when we were first married, I was wanting to use NFP for TTA but didn't. It taught me so much. So when the time came to TTC, I already knew what was going on and what to expect.

  • I can't think of any reason why people would be negative about that book. It's informative, empowering and something that you could refer back to for the rest of your life.

  • Thanks everyone...I'm ordering it today!!
  • Awesome book, go get it NOW if you are TTC! It will teach you more about your body than you may even want to know :)

The only con I have ever heard came from an ignorant person, who obviously hadn't read the book, who thought it was written about the rhythm method (which we can all agree is the opposite of what TCOYF is about).

    Goodluck!

  • I think the "negative" is that some readers focus on what they see as the author's disdain for the medical community.  When I read it, I was reading for TTA rather than TTC, and I didn't get that vibe, but I haven't read it word for word, and I imagine that someone in a medical career might see it differently.

Regardless, read the book.  The benefit far outweighs whatever undertones may or may not exist between the lines.

  • GET IT!

I bought it a few years ago to chart to avoid when I got off of the pill. I'm so happy that I did, and I know so much more about what is going on with my body. I am now charting to get pregnant, and it is so valuable to know when O is coming, and know what DPO I am. My cycles do vary, and if I didn't chart I would not know when AF is coming, or what else is going on. I would go crazy if I didn't chart!

  • Biggest con is the pictures in the book.
  • I think the biggest con might be the sheer size of it- at first I found it kind of boring- just long and dry.  I mean, I am a pretty avid reader, but it's like the encyclopedia of fertility! But that's an absolute PRO too... what worked for me is reading through a few sections that I was initially interested in... then going back, reading a few more, rereading others, etc.  Eventually I read them all in a way that was relevant to me.  Good luck!
