Hi everyone!
Sooo, I went in for my scheduled repeat c-section on 9/23/10. Katie was born at 1:49pm. I won't write out a long birth story, but to sum up - I felt everything, and it was freaky!! I've had 3 c-sections now, and I can say that EACH experience was completely different from the last. My 1st experience - I felt nothing... not even tugging/pulling... nada. I had had an epidural first because I was induced and intended on giving birth vaginally. When that didn't work out, they did a spinal... so I guess the double "block" worked well. With my 2nd c-section, I felt tugging/pulling but that was it. With THIS c-section.... I felt everything from the initial cut, to them pulling out my uterus (not sure what that is about but I sure as heck didn't ask), removing the placenta.... cutting away/through old scar tissue... oh yeah, it was a trip!
I don't know how it could be so different, but it was. My spinal numbed me completely. I felt no pain. But I FELT everything. Not a fan of that! I'm one of those "ignorance is bliss" type people when it comes to having surgery performed on me, so it was something I was not prepared for. Luckily my husband distracted me as much as possible and once the baby was born they gave me some sedation so I wasn't as keen as to what they were doing. Very strange though!
Overall though things went very well. My baby girl is healthy - weighing in at 8lbs, 3 oz, and is 19 7/8 inches long. She is adorable and looks a lot like my oldest son did when he was born! I am doing pretty good.... sore, but that is par for the course. I am making sure to take my pain meds when I should so that I am the least uncomfortable. Baby girl scored 9's on her APGAR.
Breastfeeding is once again proving to be difficult, but I am not throwing in the towel yet! My milk hasn't even come in yet so I'm certainly not about to give up. But yeah. Between having a "lazy" baby, and then my nipple getting so cracked it is now bleeding.... let's just say we are off to a rough start! You know it's bad when the lactation consultant actually tells you that you need to give your baby a bottle of formula. She's been supplemented a few times but once my milk comes in I hope that she no longer needs to be supplemented at all! Of course.... with a bleeding nipple, I'm not sure how that's going to work? But I plan to call the lactation consultant tomorrow. For now.... she nurses.... then is supplemented with a bottle.... then I pump for 15-30 minutes. Keeping my fingers crossed that my milk comes in adequately!
Ok, so now that I just went on a tangent about my bf'ing difficulty.... I'll end here! So yep... we're home, we're doing well, adjusting to life as a family of 5! Congrats and good luck to you all!!! ![]()
And here she is!!
