Need advice for DIY wrap

OK - I thought I had plenty of time for this, but it has sort of crept up on me.  Every year, we go to Beech Mt in NC to help at Autumn at Oz.  (Really cool weekend, all things Wizard of Oz).  I had planned on MIL watching LO overnight Sat-Sun, but my milk supply has taken a dip recently (another story altogether) and I don't know if I will have enough to leave her all weekend.  So, my thought is that after DH finishes work on Sat, he will bring her with him.

I still have to help out on Sunday though, and I don't think my K'tan will be up to the task of wearing her for extended periods of time.
I had been planning on getting some fabric to make a wrap, but wanted to do some research.  Now, I don't really have any time left, I'll need to get the fabric before Friday to make sure it works (and learn a couple of wraps!!)

Any suggestions, ideas, help?

  • You can use cotton gauze or osnaburg to make a wrap.  Cotton gauze is prettier and cooler, but osnaburg is going to give you more support and is dyable.  You'll want about 5 1/2yds and you'll cut it down to be about 30" wide.

  • I just bought gauze/muslin for a couple DIY wraps recently (they're cut down & waiting on hems right now.) I cut ours to 32" wide, to allow for hems and tapered the ends (cut at an angle for the last foot of the length). Be sure you wash a couple times before you cut. I washed ours, then practicing wrapping DD a few times before I cut so I had a better idea of what length/width I wanted.

Sounds like you're set on the fabric, but I saw an interesting trick for dealing with unfinished ends if you don't find the time to sew.
