My mom has stated to me multiple times that she wants to be called anything else but Grandma. I can only think of Nanna as another option. Do you ladies have any other suggestions?
My mom goes by Gram and I have a Mimi. On the other side of the family I have a Grannie. I know that Gram is the most unconventional but the kids do a really good job with picking it up and being able to say Gram, one did go through the dam stage though. My mother in law wants to be called Gigi.

Both my mom and MIL wanted grammy but my nephew started calling my mom mimi (mee-mee) which is much cuter so i think we may try to get baby to do that for both. DHs grandmother will be grandma.
Keeping my fingers crossed for my BFP Buddy STL34!!!
My mom goes by Grammy and my MIL goes by Ita (Spanish). When I have grandchildren I want to be called Granna.
totally just curious but what is the translation for Ita in english? , like Spain spanish? my DH is from Guatamala and I have never seen that word before.but my mil has said random words I dident know before I met her .so its probley just me .
Gammy, Hee-hee, and the first letter of their name with an ee sound (i.e. my aunt is Cee-Cee and one friend has a Kee-Kee). A lot of times it depends on what the kids can say- my friend's mom is Gammy because her first grandchild couldn't say Grammy.
I also have a friend's dad who goes by G-diddy because that's what the kiddo could say (instead of Granddaddy). It's cute.
I've got many grandmothers and adopted grandmothers. Granny, MawMaw, Mimi, Gaggy (Gag), Nana, Nanny, Buddy (Bud), and my beloved paternal grandmother went by Toochie (Tooch). She always called us cuties when we were little, and we couldn't say it right. The name stuck.

Well, my MIL is from Puerto Rico/Spain (born in Spain and raised in PR) her and her mother have both gone by Ita.

In my experience, the first grandkid names the grandparents. The strangest I've heard is Oddlie (pronounced odd-i-lee). I don't know where it came from, but that's what the oldest grandkid started calling her. Grandma isn't a natural thing for a kid to say, so I bet the baby will come up with something My dad's parents were Gram and Daddy Jack. My mom's parents were Grandma and Grandad for a long time. My cousin (8 years younger than me) renamed them Mawmaw and Pawpaw after she started talking.

My DD calls both grandmothers "Mamaw _(firstname)_". The great grandmothers are "Mimi" and "Gigi". DH grew up calling his grandmother "Grammie" I called mine "Grandma" but now its abbreviated to "G-ma".

Apparently you can google alternate names for grandparents. My mother has become obsessed with this because she refuses to be grandma or gran or grams or anything in which grand, nana or nanny is involved. She wants to be Glama (glamorous grandma which is what Goldie Hawn goes by), but I told her it sounded like the child had a speech impediment. I've decided my grandmother with go by Gigi (which makes sense for great-grandma), and I suggested Mimi to my mother, but she still doesn't like it.
My father, on the otherhand, has decided to stick with his school administrator background and just wants the grandchild to call him Mr. LN.

Maybe it's an abbreviation of "abuelita"?
I am sure it is.

We have all grandma and grandpas (insert last name) on my side. No probs but I'm the first with kids so done. My hubby has a big blended family so we have a "mum mum" (german?), nana, mimi (not to our kids but there is one deeper up the family tree) and of course grams. Not a single grandma? weird but whatever you pick they will go with. I call my sister Meagan for example, she thinks its fun to be aunt Mimi so at 3 my son started switchign over and now she is mimi ugh.
We let DD pick the names (she was the 1st grandbaby on both sides) she came up with Fla-da for my mom and Pomma for DH's. I think it's cute to let them pick it.

"Ita" could be a shortened form of "Abuelita."
My parents go by Abuelo/Abuela...but DS calls them Lelo and Lela since he can't get the whole thing out yet. It's really cute!
DD has a Nana, and NayNay. NayNay is my mom...and her actual name is Rene', so that is where it came from. Is there anything you can make out of her actual name?
My niece and nephew call their other grandmother BeBe, because her name is actually Beverly.

my mom will go by yiyia pronunced ya ya. which is greek for grandmother. my dad will go by pop, which is what i call his dad. as for dh parents i am not sure. his dad will most likely go by pap, which is a pittsburgh thing. mil we have no idea. lol.
My MIL is Nonna, the Italian word for Grandma, and my mom is Oma, the German word for Grandma. They both chose what they wanted to be called since DS was the first grandchild on both sides.

My MIL's name is actually Nona (Italian for grandma) so I'm really hoping she'll be Nana Nona, but I suspect she just wants to be grandma.?
My mother has said she wants to be Grammy, which I sort of hate (no offense to any grammy granddaughters out there). I like Gram a lot better.
My aunt is Mo Mo to her grandkids, but that's what her kids called her too, actually.?
Eli refers to them as Grammy (my mom) and Memaw (MIL).
