Trying to Get Pregnant

Planning for a family vacation while TTC... WWYD?

I know someone posted about a similiar story earlier today... but I'd like to get your insight on my "special snowflake" situation. Smile

Family does not know we are TTC... My parents are trying to plan a family vacation to Florida with DH, myself, my sister, & my BIL. They were originally planning for this spring. We are going to rent a condo on the ocean and then most likely spend a few days at Disney, Sea World, or Universal Studios (we haven't quite worked out the details yet). Since I won't be able to go on most rides if I'm PG... I really would prefer to go after the baby is born. I fibbed and told them DH won't have any vacation time available until next fall. So now we are planning on going in late September/early October.

Here's my concern: If I DON'T get KU within the next few months, then the timing of a fall vacation won't work. UGH. I wish magic 8 balls actually worked and I could ask if I will get a BFP this cycle.

WWYD? Go with the spring vacay? Fall? Tell the parents we are TTC?

  • That's a tough call...maybe you should tell them, if you feel comfortable doing that.

Our family is planning a Carribean vacation in the Spring, so I just had to time that I was under 7 months to still be able to fly.

Hopefully it all works out for you.  GL

  • I'd just wait and see how the next 2-3 months play out, but would tell them that you guys are in (for now). I'd try to avoid actually setting anything in stone for now though. Just tell them that you'd prefer to wait to pay for everything 'til the first of the year?

  • DH & I ran into the same situation. We struggled because my parents wanted to take us to Caymen, but we were TTC. We wouldn't be able to go if we got pregnant right away, but decided that a LO was more important than a family vacation. Turns out, we didn't get KU so we're going on vacation. My recommendation is not plan your life around when you "plan" to get KU. Your family will understand if you have to back out.
  • if it were my parents i would tell them.. but that's just me. i would think they would be excited for you and would take that into consideration.

  • There are plenty of rides you can go on at Disney while pg. You'd just need to stay off of the crazy ones. Snow White and Peter Pan are just fine.

  • It's really tough to try to plan for a vacation when you're TTC! In your case, though, I think spring would be better. There's a lot you can do at Disney without going on the rides, and I would think it would be much easier to go while pregnant than to go with a young baby.

I really hope you get your BFP soon, but I know that it can be a very frustrating, heartbreaking process. The thing I've learned during my 16 months of trying is that you have to plan as if you won't be pregnant, and hope that you will be. If you compromise your plans because you might get pregnant, it makes it that much harder to get those BFN's.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

  • Since your situation is up in the air, I'd just tell your parents, have them keep their mouths shut about it, and play it by ear on your end. DH & I are in the same boat. Only, our "family vaca's" are set dates, b/c they're weddings on either side of our families. Sucks, b/c they're both in the NE & we're in FL so we'll have to fly or drive a 2 day trip (really long 2 days). GL with getting it all figured out!!!!!
"For I know the plans I have for you,
  • Personally, I would go ahead and plan for the trip. There are a lot of things that you would still be able to do at all of the Disney World theme parks ....they have a lot of rides in each of the parks that you just sit on and watch things without being jerked around. There would also be a lot of things you could do and see at Sea World while being pregnant. Universal Studios wouldn't be as much fun pregnant, but you could always skip out on that theme park if you are pregnant at the time. You can always plan for the vacation but just wait to purchase the theme park tickets until the date is closer.

  • I'm kinda in a similar situation. My family is going to Myrtle Beach Memorial Day 2011; my grandparents are taking all their kids, grandkids and great grandkids for a long-weekend vacation.

When I found out that we were going to go to on vacation and that I could likely be pregnant or have my a small child (that was if we got pregnant a few months ago), I decided to talk to parents. Their opinion was that we shouldn't plan our family around when everyone else is going on vacation.

If I get pregnant this cycle, I'd be due in mid-June and we wouldn't be able to go on vacation. These last two cycles I've just said a little prayer that if we are meant to go on vacation that we not got pregnant this cycle, but if we are meant to have a baby in June, that god grant us a baby. I'm not very religious, but I figure if either is meant to be, it's meant to be.

Edited to add: I'd say go with the vacation in Spring...good luck whatever you decide!

This.  I would not plan a trip like this around TTC, though of course the thought of how pregnant I might be would def. cross my mind.
