3rd Trimester

Not knowing the baby's gender....

I'm 30 weeks and I STILL do not know my baby's gender. This drives me crazy... When I was 12 weeks, I took an Intelligender test and it came back a boy, the ultrasounds have gone from "Sorry but I can't see anything due to the baby's position" to "well, I believe it COULD be a girl" and lastly to "Hmm.. from what I see, since the leg is in the middle, it kind of looks like a baby boy". So desperate have I been that I took ANOTHER Intelligender and it once again said to be a boy.

If my baby won't let us see through U/S... is it "safe" then to rely on the prediction of the Intelligender? I'm running out of time to buy everything... and yellow/green combinations just don't make the cut...

By the Way: Intelligender is the test where you take a sample of your urine.

Re: Not knowing the baby's gender....

  • There is absolutely nothing present in urine that would be able to tell the gender of a baby.  Any one of us can make a 50-50 guess and be just as accurate. Sorry

  • Well I've known couples to be told a certain gender during U/S and the baby ends up being the other gender after delivery.  Yeah, it doesn't happen all the time but it happens.  I'm team green so I can't really say what I'd think in your position.  In reality, babies need very few things the first couple weeks.

What do you need to buy other than clothes?  You could always go for an elective 3D/4D U/S if it was that important.

  • I agree with PP. Get the 3d. this should show  you for sure

  • Definitely not "safe" to rely on intelligender...it's really just like a game

  • Intelligender is BS. There is absolutely no way to tell SEX from urine. I agree with PP: get an elective ultrasound. Usually they will take as much time as needed to figure out the sex and will let you come back for free if the baby isn't cooperating.

  • I took an intelligender test and it told me boy, and I have since gotten assurance (via 3d ultrasound and an UNMISTAKEABLE view of her parts) that she is, indeed, a girl.
  • Why are you so desperate to know? Just curious.  I am in a similar situation - had two ultrasounds and tech could not tell either time.  A friend purchased an intelligender test for me and even though I know it's bunk I had to take it to be nice - it said boy.  No way am I relying on that.  I really was looking forward to finding out, but I am okay with waiting too.  I mean, you WILL find out at birth.  What's the big deal?

This exactly!!!  Do NOT rely on intelligender to determine the sex and go decorate/buy thingns based off that.  It could be right, but it's only 50/50.

  • I read recently about a study that has a very high accuracy rate for telling the gender of your baby based on the position of the placenta.

If you google that I'm sure you can find the article.  This might help in your quest.

    I'm with you.

If it's not, FFS you only have 10 weeks left.  At this point, wait!  No, intelligender is as accurate as me telling you it's a boy.

  • I'm also about 30 weeks & don't know the SEX of our baby.  It doesn't drive me crazy and yes, we have been able to completely plan the nursery/gear.

You do know that women have been giving birth, planning nurseries/baby areas for um, CENTURIES without knowing the sex?

Also, please let me know exactly what it is in urine that will reveal the sex?  Just wondering as modern science hasn't discovered this so I'm curious if you know what it is.

  • Hey now, some of these replies have been pretty harsh. I definitely understand why some people want to know the sex of their baby. If you don't, it doesn't make it any less important to those who do. I'm very happy to know we're having a girl. Even now, organizing the nursery and folding clothes, I remember thinking I didn't need to know, I would be fine with my baby wearing yellow and green for a few months, but now that I know we're having a girl, I'm excited to see the little dresses and bows and such that we have... As excited as I was to have a baby before I knew, it makes it a lot more real to be able to call her by name.

That said, if it is important for you to know, PPs have had good ideas about how to find out.. GL =)
