December 2010 Moms

WDYT about these dresses?

These are dresses I'm thinking about for my showers, coming up on Oct 9 and Oct 16.  Neither are maternity because I can't find cute plus size maternity dresses, but I think they'll accommodate my bump.  I've got a couple of empire waist dresses that I regularly wear that are fine.

WDYT about these, from the Avenue? Oh, and I'm only 5'2", so they'll be longer on me.

Re: WDYT about these dresses?

  • I love the blue one! The bottom dress is cute too, but I don't think it's a pattern that I personally could pull off.

  • I really like both.  I was looking at these from Avenue as well.  If you order them let me know how they fit.
  • They're both very cute, but I like the blue one better.
  • None of the dresses I've been wearing are maternity, I just get cute dresses in larger sizes and that seems to work because I'm 5'4".

They are both cute so I say go for it!

  • Either one is adorable but for me, I would go with the second one... I love both though hard decision..

  • I would do the first one.  I don't know how well the pattern on the second one would photograph.

  • I really like the blue dress as well!

  • Thanks ladies!  I was also leaning toward the blue one because I know that color looks good on me, and I'm certain the waist would be high enough.  I wasn't certain about the 2nd one because sometimes I find it hard to pull off patterns.

Would you wear the same thing to two showers?  The only person who might be at both would be my mom.  Otherwise, the only way anyone will know is from pictures.  There was a solid purple dress I liked in the store at Avenue the other day, but they didn't have my size in it or the other colors, so I couldn't try it on. They even checked in the back for me. They said they get shipments every day, so I'll check back.

  • I'd go with the blue one (pretty!) and wear it to both showers. Like you said, there won't be overlap except for your mom. Plus, you want to wear something you feel comfortable and cute in.

  • I really like the blue one. The other one is cute but NMS.
  • I vote for the blue one :) I personally wouldn't mind wearing the same dress to both showers (if just my mom knew about it). But then again I'm trying to limit spending now... so if I could afford it I would get the other one also (for picture sake).

I'm trying to watch my spending, too.  In addition to everything we're buying for the baby, I'm going to have to buy a sweater/jacket for the cooler weather and some more pants.  I only have one pair of full length pants, so I'll need at least another pair.  And I'll need another pair of shoes, too, because none of my closed shoes, except my sneakers fit me. Maternity clothes have been expensive.

I think this dress will look cute with leggings, too, so I'll be able to wear it into the winter, too.  I found some cardigans at Target that aren't maternity.  They won't cover my bump, but I they'll be ok, and I can wear them after Logan is born.

  • I would wear them both, but in his situation, I vote for blue!! Keep in mind that pictures will be taken and often, cameras do funny things to your body when you are in a pattern. I wore a blue dress, very similar, to my shower and most of the pictures turned out. Sometimes keeping it simple is the best way to go...but speaking of keeping it simple, above all I vote that you save the money and go with one of your dresses from your closet. Anything empire should work. That's what I did - I'm so over buying clothes!
  • Both are cute, I think the blue will work better with the bump though.

  • Thanks for the tip.  Your shower turned out REALLY cute, and you look great!  I was thinking about you the other day, actually, but I can never remember your screen name.  I'm glad Nolan has decided to stay put for now.

I've actually been trying to find something more colorful for my wardrobe.  I have a black & white dress and a brown with blue print dress that I wear regularly.  This dress wouldn't be just for my shower. And since it's not maternity, I'll be able to wear it post-partum.
