What are your thoughts/ opnions/ reviews of this monitor. DH and I picked up the deluxe model this morning (Link below). Then we went to our friends house who has an 11 month old, and my girlfriend gave me the baby bargains book. The angelcare monitor was rated an "F".
Should we stick with the one we wanted, or switch to a video monitor? (We are thinking of setting up our web cam and have it stream to our phones, so we have the video on our cells)

Re: Angelcare Monitor
We bought one when we were pregnant with DS, and yes it can and will give you false alarms until you program it correctly. For spring mattresses it suggesting placing a piece of wood board, which we did, and then to adjust the monitors sensory levels to work with your bed. The only time we had false alarms was when we were getting everything set up.
After everything was adjusted etc....it worked great and we had no issues. The only other time the alarm went off is when DS rolled off the sensor pad area. The alarm did what it was suppose to do and at that point (6months) we stopped using the sensor pad part.
We will be using it again this time around with DD. My thing with the angelcare over the video or voice/sound only monitior is that with the video or voice monitor you can not see or hear your baby stop breathing. The angel care will sound a alarm when the baby has stopped moving after a certain amount of time. No movement means no breathing.
We used it for DD and will use it for this baby too. It does give you a lot of piece of mind. We used the plywood underneath the crib, and we had maybe 1 false alarm, when she started to roll off of it and that's when we quit using the sensor part.
We used it with DD1 from about 5 months (when we moved her to her crib) to just over a year when we started getting too many false alarms from her moving all over the crib. Before that, we hardly had any false alarms (we did the plywood board under the mattress as well) though and the peace of mind was absolutely worth it.
We'll definitely be using it with DD2 as well, I can't imagine not having it. I slept SO much better once we got it for DD1 and wish we had had it from the start.
we have this monitor from DS. He was a preemie and weighed about 4 lbs when we brought him home. He set off that motion monitor like 7 times in two days when we first got home and we were freaking out. We eventually realized that he was just too small for the motion detector to work properly. we shut that part off and used the audio only until he got up to about 6 lbs. then, we were able to use both portions fine. There were one or two occasions after that when the motion detector went off. i would run in and pick up DS and make sure he was breathing. it was fine both times and i'll never really know if he was having an issue and then it stopped when i picked him up or if it was a false alarm. but, once he was at a newborn weight, i did feel better having the motion detector, just in case.
we plan on using this again with DD.
