Potty Training ?

My 30 month old is ready to be totally trained. She has complete control and asks to use the potty when she needs to go. However- she says she "doesn't like underwear" and wants to wear diapers. I am thinking it is bc we  have a 3 month old and so she doesn't want to give up being a baby. Not sure. Suggestions? We let her pick out the underwear herself- Dora, Minnie Mouse etc. but she still says "I like diapers."

  • This is really cute! (Although, I'm sure you're not thinking it's all that cute). I can just picture my daughter saying the same thing in a few months.

  • This might be a silly suggestion but could you get underwear for your 3 month old and say "Baby likes to wear underwear, would you like ot wear underwear like Baby?"

Or I dont know if this is ok or not but have you shown her that you wear underwear too? Maybe she mght want to follow the footsteps of mommy?HTH

Interesting suggestion about the baby :) maybe worth a try. Yes, we talk about how mommy, daddy, grammy, poppie, her cousins, everyone she loves wears underwear. It still doesn't work. We have her 2 1/2 year check up this week so I will ask the pedi for suggestions too :)

Haha :) I guess from the outsie looking in it is cute!!

  • I have been working on potty training and have been unsuccessful so I am tempted to say be thrilled that she is potty trained and I know it sucks it pay for pull ups but one a day for a while until she is ready is much better than my DD right now! She loves to wear panties but will wet in them because she refuses to use the potty at home only in public and DC ugh!

  • Have you seen the "Potty Power" video? It has a section that is a little game to show what babies and big kids do.  It emphasizes that babies were diapers and big kids were underwear. oh my and the songs! my daughter marches around singing "I'm gonna wear my underwear, sing it loud, sing it proud I'm gonna wear my underwear" cheesy but it works!

  • Are you trying to avoid pullups too? About your 3 month wearing underwear, maybe put them over the diaper lol Good Luck ; )

  • I'm more of a cold turkey mommy so I say throw a potty party and have her throw away ALL of the diapers.  Don't keep any in the house (except the babies, of course) so that YOU won't be tempted to give in.  Make it really fun for her- throw a Panty Party and have balloons hats, cupcakes, etc.  Let her unwrap new panties and really go all out so she doesn't think about it as having to get rid of something, rather that she's getting something new and a party to go along with it.  Then just put her in the big girl panties and even if she cries, ignore it and don't give any attention.  It might help to line up a babysitter for the 3 month old that day so that she isn't confused about why baby still gets diapers but she doesn't- out of sight out of mind.  Plus, if she get your undivided attention and lots of praise for a whole day regarding big girl panties then maybe she will be more inclined to be happy about them.
