Husband at 1st doc appt?

Hey everyone! Just joining you all, got my BFP yesterday!

I am wanting to know if it is the norm for your husband to go with you to your first doctor's appt. I really have no idea, and I can't ask my friends with babies because I don't want to tell anyone yet. Thanks ladies!

  • Find out if they are going to do a sono. If they are, then yes, he won't want to miss it.

  • My DH didn't come to ours for the simple fact that he had to work.  However, he does plan on coming to the 2nd one.

  • DH has gone with me to all of my appointments and u/s.
  • MH is adamant he will be at every appointment, even if there are times when all he does is sit in the waiting room. At first appointment he had a lot of questions I hadn't really thought of so it was really good to have him there. I feel like if YH wants to go, let him. Its one fo the few ways he can be involved this early on.

  • Sure, why not?  Especially if they're going to give you a u/s

  • Mine went and we were glad he did because we got to see the heartbeat.  It was really special.  It was also just nice to have him there while we waited forever in the waiting room and exam room.

  • Thanks! I haven't made my appt yet, so I don't know if they will do a sono or not. If so, he will definitely go. If not, we will see if he can get off of work.

  • My husband insisted he come. And we weren't even going to be able to see the heart beat that day, just to confirm we were indeed pregnant. I think he really just wanted to come incase something went wrong and I had infact miscarried, he didnt want me to be alone. He's coming again next week when we go for the heart beat. Then I should be on my own!
  • Mine didn't.  My first appointment was peeing in a cup and having a pelvic exam. I didn't see any need for him to be there or to miss work for it.

However, he is certainly coming to all my u/s's. And maybe to some of the later "getting ready for birth" appointments.

  • mine has come to every one so far. if i can offer you some advice, even if your husband can't go, take a parent or close friend, especially if it's your first appointment.  my first appointment was terrible, they told me they thought i had a blighted ovum, and i was terribly upset.  (everything worked out fine, and i'm NOT trying to worry you about anything.) but god forbid you get bad or questionable news, you might want someone with you.

  • DH came with me because they did an u/s. He also wants to come when they do the doppler for the first time so he can hear the heartbeat.

  • DH won't be at the first one because it is just a blood test and insurance paperwork. However, he will be at the second appt. for the u/s.

  • My first appt. will be Tuesday and he's coming. While he wants to come, I don't think they'll even do a u/s, but just in case they do,he doesn't want to miss out on that first sight.

  • My hubby didn't go to the first appointment because all I did was pee in a cup and then meet with a nurse to go over the do's and dont's followed by having vial after vial of blood drawn.  He made sure the go to the second appointment to hear the heartbeat.  I was so glad that he came because the baby was moving so much that they couldn't say for sure if the Dr. heard it for a split second so I ended up having an ultrasound.  My hubby is my rock and keeps me calm.  Everything was fine but I was glad to have him there with me.

  • My DH will be going.  I double-checked when I made my appointment that it was okay.  I definitely want him there!
