If you REALLY wanted to be snarky, send it to her back with a note saying, "thanks so much, I highlighted the passages I found helpful." When she opens it, NOTHING IS HIGHLIGHTED. Maybe one sentence that says "Love your baby" or something.

Oh, I'm not going to fight with her about it, which is why I vented on here instead of saying something to her. I can't be too mad because she's never had children of her own, just her husband's. But still, you'd think she'd have looked into it before buying it for me. All you have to do is search BabyWise on google and you come up with 10000 websites saying how horrible it is. Hm. It's just been a long night and I'm full of piss and vinegar, that's all!
I actually have the book. I read it before DD was born along with Happiest Baby on the Block. Most of BabyWise wasn't THAT bad, but there was a lot of AP bashing.
I wasn't about to schedule my baby, although I did find that the Eat-Activity-Sleep routine was very helpful. We stuck with the routine and DD started STTN at 5 weeks, just in time for me to return to work. I never let her cry, though, and she cluster fed all evening long for the first three months.
Any parent who lets their newborn cry for any length of time for the sake of the clock is an idiot. If you're doing a routine it should work FOR your child instead of against him/her. It's common sense. I don't know why some people rely more on books than their own instincts when it comes to parenting.

You're a smart person reading this book though The problem is that some read it like it's the Bible...
