had my baby - single best advice i can give you...

had my DD Saturday and the MWs told us something no one had for DD1:

put olive oil on the baby's privates to get the meconium off easier at each changing.  don't be too stingy!  it won't hurt them and will make your life a heck of a lot better!

wish we had known for DD1!

:)

  • I was told to use Vaseline for the same reason, but olive oil sounds like it would work well too. Thanks!

  • I hardly remember the meconium days...  so it makes it easier to get the poo out of LO?  Or off?  I was also not told about that.  I remember playing tug-a-war with DS's poo didn't know if every baby had it, I thought it was partially jaundice related.

I was told off by several people. (I guess it's tough to clean off of their adorable new baby skin! It sticks like tar.)

Apparently it has been way too long for me because I honestly can't remember if we had these issues or not.

  • On our hospital tour this past Tuesday, our birthing class teacher told us the same thing.  It makes sense.  Will probably make diaper changes faster and easier!
  • Yes, our birthing class instructor is giving us each a little vial of olive oil to put in our bag for this very reason. She said it just slides off like a pancake :P

  • Huh-

I didn't have problems with either of my babies and the meconium poop.

  • Thanks for the advice! I'll have to put that in the hospital bag just in case.
