3rd Trimester

Pet weirdness

Last night DH and I were sitting on the couch watching TV.  I got up to go upstairs and change and the dog, who had been lying on the floor, jumped up and ran after me.  This is very unlike him as he's generally lazy and won't move unless he has to.

This morning, I woke up and my cat was plastered against me - she's been sleeping verry close to me lately.  I'm thinking I need to get little clothes washed, bag packed and car seat installed and inspected ASAP.

Re: Pet weirdness

  • My dogs are always clingy, so that's nothing new for me.  But my cat is a total snob and never wants to be handled.  Within the past three days, though, she has been on top of me non-stop.  At night she has to lay against me, and she has been on my lap all day.  Very weird.  I can only hope it means something.  I've been having a lot of back pain and an upset tummy, so I'm praying.  But little girl hasn't dropped and I still have my MP. Let's hope the cat knows something I don't.

  • Little girl has definitely dropped but no MP yet (though that means nothing).  My grey will usually watch but not follow - darn lazy dogs!!

  • Yes, my grey is the same way, he follows me with his eyes.  My lab, however, is attached at the hip.  He's sleeping ON me right now and I can't get him to move.  And he's not tiny! Last night my grey laid RIGHT on top of me, which is very unusual for him.  And he's 95 lbs!

  • Ouch!!  Rajah is only 75 but he won't get in the bed while I'm there.  As soon as I get up and get in the shower he is right there next to DH, but if he sees me come out and knows I'm getting back in bed he's gone.  So yeah, having him follow me is bizarre.

  • Oh, Spotty won't jump on the bed, but he thinks the couch is his! It's about his size, he's a giant, way outside of breed standards (he's very tall and long). I've always believed that our animals can tell when things are about to change, so lets keep our fingers crossed!!

  • See, this freaks me out a little because my cat was mega-clingy just before going into active labor with DS1 and she's been the same way since yesterday.  She's driving me crazy by all of it, AND I want LO to stay put at least another 2 weeks and ideally another 3-4.

KC, haven't you been going through PTL? Maybe she's just confused! Crossing fingers!!

  • I've always heard that animals are a lot more sensitive than humans about these things, so maybe there's something going on...

My dog won't be a good indication for me, we adopted him a few months ago and since then, he has followed me everywhere. If I go to the bathroom, by the time I get out, he's sitting there waiting for me. It's cute, but I'm a little worried about how much attention he will need when DD arrives...

  • My dogs have been following me around since I found out I was pregnant. Same thing with my cat.  It is REALLY getting annoying!
Yeah...my pics were so old. I got 3 kids. Nuff said. :)
  • I think I trained my dog to be my "Potty Buddy."  I would always bring her in the bathroom with me when she was a puppy because if I left her alone while on the toilet...she would make a mess of the living room.  So now she'll just follow me in.

However, she normally likes sleeping in a certain room under the bed.  Lately I've been sleeping in the computer room on an air mattress (right next to the a/c and window...ahh...cool air, poor DH hahaha)...anyway, she HAS to come sleep by me.  It's been this way for a while now, so I think I am definitely getting close.

Now my mom's dog, she normally sleeps in the laundry room...but has been glued to sleeping against my door.  It's weird.  And she's become more lovey, she'll give me hugs and kisses more, and she comes to me more often now to let her outside or to get a drink.  She normally goes to my mom.

Yeah, I definitely think it's coming.  Hahaha.  I've been keeping an eye on how much their behavior changes.

  • YES!  My Sheltie has always been known to be a Mama's boy- he is 12, but lately, it is unbearable.  He has to be RIGHT next to me no matter what.  If I just get up and take two steps to pick up a pen, he is right there.  I googled it and while some websites said dogs can "sense" the baby, others said they see the difference in your gait, or walk, and think something is wrong with you and want to protect you.  Poor guy has no idea what's coming!
