Carseat placement

Hi Ladies

We picked up the car seat and checked to make sure it will fit in the car.. yes... Now I have a question

My car is a 2007 Mazda so has sholder belts all the way across. Is the middle seat the safest or should it go to one of the window seats.

I have read some confusing information. Some say, if the seat is able to be installed in the middle properly, the middle is the safest as further away from the sides in the event of an accident....However, may be really inconveinant to get in and out.

Some other research says that any spot is the safest as long as rear facing and in the back seat....

Anyone have any info on this ?

Re: Carseat placement

  • Went to the fire station yesterday and the firefighter secured our seat in the middle back.  You can't use the LATCH system if its in the middle (unless your car has three sets of the LATCHes), but you can use the belt and secure it by pulling the shoulder strap allllllll the way out and then letting it click back in so its locked in place.

Hard to describe in words - just go to the fire station and have them do it for you!

  • The middle is the safest position according to our police-station-carseat-installer-guy.  It makes sense if you think about side impact and inconvenience isn't really a factor in the car seat placement decision for me...it is what is is, you'll get used to it.

I've also been told the middle seat is the safest, regardless of whether you're using LATCH or the belt.  As for convenience, I don't have any trouble getting my niece in and out of my car and she's in the middle.  I'm 5'2" and drive a Jeep Liberty.

What type of car seat do you have? I have a Jeep Liberty and my car seat doesn't fit in the middle. Right now it's on the passenger side and it still really doesn't fit.

Yes, the middle is the safest per my fire department.

I have a Jeep Liberty, too...the car seat fits perfectly!  I got the Chicco Keyfit30.  Which car seat did you get?

I have the Evenflo Aura. I'm debating on taking it back.
