Porta crib?

I'm a major procrastinator, but we do have a bassinet for when LO is first home. I finally came to the realization that I need to buy a second crib. DD's crib was pretty expensive, and really nice... but we'll only be using 2 cribs for a few months before transitioning her to a toddler bed. I'm going back a forth of what to buy as a second crib, and I found this porta crib at BRU.

Of course they don't carry them in stores, only online, so I have no idea exactly how much smaller it is than a full size crib. Is it too small? This does transition to a twin bed, so it can't be that small... right? Any thoughts/opinions about full size cribs vs, porta cribs? TIA!

Re: Porta crib?

  • We're using a pack-n-play bassinet in our room till we transition to the crib in the nursery, it's smaller and can be used later when we travel to grandparents' houses. got the idea from the Baby Bargains book and other friends

  • I heard the changing table part is super small & LO will outgrow it with a couple of months.  I'm sure you can find some reviews online.

Thanks. I'm not as worried about the changing table part - we'll only have it in our room for a few months, then I have a full size dresser/changing table in the nursery. Is the bed part super tiny? All the reviews on BRU are good.

  • We had a mini-crib with DS, I think it was about 30-40" long? DS fit in it just fine through nine months (he wasn't a huge baby, sort of long, though). It was nice to have it, bc our apartment was so small at the time. Though I think I would be more inclined to getting a Pack'n'Play if I was going to transition my first kid out of a crib in a few months, instead.

  • We live in a small NYC apartment and we are getting a similar mini crib. The mini cribs use the same size mattress as a pack n play. This is the one we're getting (we found it at Buy Buy Baby):

I spent a long time talking to the salesperson, and she said that the baby can use it as long as he can't pull himself out. However, it's just as deep as a normal crib, so I'm not sure why the smaller size would make a difference. The manufacturer says the crib is good for 0-12 months (full size cribs say 0-24 months), but from the research I've done, many people can use it for longer, and they transition directly into the twin bed from there.

If you already have a full size crib for your other baby, then definitely just get a small one. You can convert it to a twin and put the bigger kid the twin when you switch the baby into the bigger crib. I think it's perferct for you!

Thanks!!! That is what I was thinking, but not real sure. It looks like the same crib? Sorelle?
