Bumper alternative; what do u think?

A friend of a friend posted on FB that instead of regular bumpers, she took swimming pool noodles and cut them to fit the crib and placed them under the fitted sheet. I had never heard of this, and was wondering if any of you had, or have done it yourself.... just wondering.

I don't see how that's any less of a SIDS risk...can't the baby still push up against it and lose air flow?

That does NOT sound safe at all. Maybe try breathable bumpers or none at all?

Yeah, personally I'm not using bumpers. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this since it seemed so off the wall to me.

Same risk.... I thought you were going to say she covered each rail with a pool noodle (which I doubt would even fit) in the same fashion as the miracle bumpers.

I have never heard of that. I wouldn't do it either. Not only is it still a risk but sounds like a PITA too.

I never used bumpers with DS, and nothing bad happened.

Something about that doesn't quite seem right... or safe for that matter. You really don't need a crib bumper until the baby starts sticking hands and feet out of the side of the crib, rolling over, and getting "stuck".

I've only heard of using pool noodles to help elevate/even out convertible car seats when installing. Otherwise I'd be afraid the kid would start taking bites out of it.

This. That whole pool noodle thing sounds ridiculous. But I think bumpers in general are unneccesary. Even breathable ones.

Sounds unsafe, a huge hassle, and just silly to me. We don't use bumpers at all. Just not worth the risk. My LO sleeps in Halo sleepsacks, which eliminate the risk of a leg getting stuck. And we have a fan going to circulate the air.
