Anyone have no idea about names?

The first  thing everyone asks me when they find out I'm pregnant is "What names do you like?" When I tell people we really don't have anything picked out, they think I'm crazy !

We've thought about names, but not seriously.  I feel like we have plenty of time! Especially since we don't plan on making final decisions until we actually meet the LO, and we're team green.

Re: Anyone have no idea about names?

  • You're not crazy - we haven't discussed names at all except to say if it's a boy it will not be a Jr.  We probably won't really discuss it  til we find out if it's a boy or girl.

  • We have no idea either, don't worry!  I'm a teacher and my students asked if we could put 2 boxes in the classroom so if they think of a good one they could put it in the girl or boy name box.  I love the idea and don't mind the input.  Maybe you could set up something like an email so that if family/friends think up something they could give you an idea.  I'm all for the input and the more ideas I can get the better!

  • We have no clue for a boy name - at all. Nothing sounds perfect to us, b/c we already used our first choice boy name, ha!  I am sure in the next 6 months we'll find another perfect name if it is a boy. But we aren't even going to discuss it until we find out the sex around 18 weeks.

We had a conversation about names at a big family dinner we had a couple weeks ago. I'm literally laughing out loud remember some of the crazy suggestions!  Silly in laws!

Yeah my SIL has been acting like she has final say on what the kiddo is named. I'm trying to keep my choices quiet since everyone's a critic it seems.

Edited to add: I love that the students are so excited! That is really fun.

  • It's also a good idea not to share your names in advance, since people seem to feel free to tell you it sucks.  Somehow, they don't do that once the baby has arrived and named.

We're pretty settled on a girl name, but are close to clueless on a boy name.  We're team green so we will need both.

  • DH has pretty much refused to discuss names.  Well, not so much refused as thrown out the most ridiculous names ever so as to avoid the conversation.  Here are some of the names he as offered: Buy and Get (as in buy one get one since we're having twins), Mazda (because we happened to be driving behind a Mazda when we were discussing), and Mango Freeze (just because he likes them, and I told him about Finn's idea for naming the baby Drizzle on Glee).  At this rate the babies will have names about 6 months after they are bornSad
  • I think my parents were on the way to check out of the hospital as they finally agreed on my name Stick out tongue

You have also of time. We have our names picked out, it wasn't easy to come up with them since DH vetoed so many of the names I liked but I'm pretty sure we're set now.  With DS's name and the boy name we picked out this time just sort of popped into our minds and we instantly agreed. This baby girl name has taken some convincing on my part but I love it so much I can't imagine any other name now.

  • You have plenty of time.  We waited until we met LO too.  We knew he was going to be a boy and it still took us SIX hours to name him!

We totally have our girl name, but if we're having another boy we're in trouble!

  • DS was born in March and we didn't even discuss names before January.  I suspest that will happen this time around.

My attitude was that the child would leave the hospital with a name.  As long as we had one by then, it didn't matter.

  • You have lots of time! We have a girl name leftover from last time. No clue for a boy name. Best thing I did last time was not announcing the name before ds was born!
  • We have known for awhile that we liked the name Charlotte.  So when my SIL asked what names we liked we said that was the only one we liked at the moment, she said something to the effect of "ooohh, that's kind of old southern ladyish"....then she proceeded to suggest the name she wanted to use if she had a girl, Cadence.  Obviously these are two different styles, yet we didn't make some opinionated comment about the name she liked.  Plus when she did name her son, though it wasn't my taste, we didn't make her feel bad about it! Needless to say, I'm considering jumping on the 'don't share with anyone to avoid 30 opinions' boat! Anyway, sorry that turned into an unintentional vent!
  • We haven't a clue, and expect it'll be pretty similar to last time.  #1 was 4 or 5 hours old before she had a name.  In our first video of her in the hospital, MH is using her hand to waive and saying "Say hello Baby (Lastname)!" because she didn't have a name yet.  We were also team green, but even if we knew the gender, I doubt we would have had a name ready to go.  A name is such a lifelong commitment and we wanted to make sure it "fit" our LO.
  • I've had a girl name picked out for years and now dh is insisting we name her (if its a girl) after his side of the family.  Ds is named after my side.  So now I have no idea.
  • We have an idea of what we would call the baby if it's a boy but have no clue on what to call it if it's a girl. There are no girl names that even come to mind that we like. We are team green and like ppl said, as long as the baby leaves the hospital with a name, it's all good, so don't worry, there's time.

  • We've been together for 10 years and have been talking about having children for almost as long, so we have our boy & girl first names picked out for sure.  We haven't chosen middle names, though.  We have about three or four of each that we like.

  • We started picking out names the minute we decided to start trying lol! We have a few of each picked out and that's what I tell people when they ask and I leave it at that. We don't need people's opinions.

  • I have one girl name that I really like, but the hubby doesn't. For the life of me I can't come up with one boy name!

My hubby won't give me a serious answer either!

  • Picking a name is HARD. It has such a huge impact on the baby's entire life! I am hoping that once we find out the sex that will help get the ball rolling. Plus maybe feeling the baby move will make things feel more "real".

We're not in a rush as long as we know what the name is by the time the baby is born! (Or maybe shortly thereafter.)

  • We picked out both names for our Little Bean.  We wont be telling any one the names because we dont want the whole speal of people thinking they have a better idea.  Once LB is born and DH makes the calls the babys name will then be announced.
