Monday Justice was started on steroids to get him of the ventilator. They're working pretty well and doc is talking about trying him on CPAP again (3rd try) tomorrow.
She called an hour and half ago and said his nurse noticed and inguinal hernia during his last diaper change. Normally surgery is done right before discharge unless there is an obstruction. Justice's intestines did not look normal on the x-ray so they are suspending his feeds at least until the next x-ray at 7. If there is an obstruction they will have to transfer him to a different hospital for the surgery.
If it's not one thing it's another. I called DH and let him know. I called my mom. I know the next thing to do is call my MIL but I just can't deal with her 20 questions right now. She always wants statistics and details that I don't think to ask and don't even think are necessary and it can be completely draining just to talk to her. I should totally make my DH call her and if she has questions he can tell her that everything we know is posted on our blog and to check that. Heck, she's HIS mom, he should be the one to call and update her anyway. I know she always wants to hear from me because I usually have a few more details than DH.
Re: Ugh! Inguinal Hernia
DS had emergency surgery for his when he was 2 months old. We noticed it when he was 1 month and met with the surgeon. They wanted to wait until he was 3 months to do the surgery but he had a really hard time with the hernia so they had to do it sooner. He was in a lot of pain and was just screaming all the time. The surgery took about an hour, they also checked the other side but it was clear. His recovery was great and he is such a different baby now.
Let DH call his mom, that's what I would do. I can't stand my MIL
Good luck with everything!
Update: No obstruction. He just needed to poop! Just watching him for now and he'll probably have it repaired a week or two after he's discharged.
He's trying CPAP for the 3rd time this morning. Hope he stays off the vent this time!
Oh, I did have DH call his mom. She was in a meeting. Then he was in a meeting so she tried to call me twice, probably after she read the blog, but the first time Dakota had just peed all over the bathroom floor (total accident of course) and I was in the middle of cleanup...bummer. The 2nd time I was at the NICU...double bummer. I texted DH and told him to call her again.
Oh good I'm glad there is no blockage. Now he can work on getting bigger and stronger before the surgery.
