Cloth Diaper Reviews at 10 Months

I'm in the midst of diaper laundry and am a little annoyed right now so I thought I'd share my bad reviews here since it seems like a lot of you CD.

Overall, I'm happy with all of our fitted and covers.  Finding the right nighttime diaper was kind of a challenge and when I find something that works, DD grows a little bit and I need to find something else.

But my main beef is with our daycare diapers.  For daycare, I send 5-6 AIOs or pockets with Aplix.  These are the 'workhorses' of my stash.  Each diaper is used 2 or 3 times a week.  Below are my reviews after about 7 months of continuous use.

Happy Heinys - hate hate hate these!  They started falling apart after only a month of use.  They don't fit my LO well.  They're cheaply made but aren't cheap to buy.  I will never buy another HH again and I'd like to toss them in the garbage.  I'm not sure they will make it to potty learning but am certain that they wouldn't make it to a 2nd child.

BumGenius - disappointed!  BGs comprise the largest part of my daycare stash.  I have mostly pockets but one sized AIO.  I don't have any issues with the AIO.  About half of my pockets are starting to wear.  The strip on the front where the Aplix sticks is really fuzzy on some of the diapers so it's hard to get them off of my LO.  On some of the diapers the strip on the front is starting to come off the diaper.  Some diapers are fine.  Obviously BG has quality control problems.  I think the stash will make it to potty learning and some of the diapers would work for a 2nd child, but not all.

Thirsties - the best!  I have both the sized AIOs that were discontinued and the sized pockets.  I like both.  These diapers can really take a beating.  They aren't showing any wear at all.  Thirsties are also priced very reasonably.  I think they're cheaper than the BGs and IMHO better made.  If I was to start over, my entire daycare stash would be Thirsties.

When I do finally throw the HH's out the window in frustration one day, any recommendations for a pocket or AIO with Aplix that is durable and reasonably priced?

Re: Cloth Diaper Reviews at 10 Months

  • WE use FB one size - snaps rather than Aplix, and I LOVE them. Bunny has recently figured out how to take off his diapers and those stay on. They're our workhorses - he's been wearing most of them for the better part of 8 months and only one has fizzled...my fault, I was stuffing it with my E-ring on and tore it. oops.

I agree with you re:thirsties. PPH those :)

  • I use BG's and have been frustrated with the velcro wearing as well. Someone told me if you dry them in the sun that won't happen, so you could try that if you are able to.

  • I agree with BG's velcro driving me crazy as well but I do still like them.  I knew going in that the velcro wasn't the best so I always hung dry them but it doesn't help. Oh well I've definitly gotten my money out of them.

  • we're using our bg's on our second child. they're in rough shape, but only as far as the aplix is concerned. pul and elastic are fine.

i'm assuming you need aplix b/c of daycare. aplix will last longer if you make sure to fasten the laundry tabs. your diapers still should be under warranty if you have had them less then a year. for the ones that are really bad, i would put a call into cottonbabies cs.

snaps will always wear better than velcro. if your daycare will allow it, the fuzzibunz with snaps are awesome and i think they fit a little better than the bg's. but i have not tried the 4.0. but i do like the microfleece lining a lot better than suedecloth.

  • I need Aplix for daycare.  We use snaps at home.  I always attach the laundry tags but most of them come unstuck in the wash.  They never stay together on the HH's (another reason to hate the HHs!).  I use the dryer for the daycare diapers.  I used to set them on the dryer rack but that takes too much time.  If I do laundry at night, I need to use those diapers again the next day at daycare.
