Special Needs

Baby might come home from the NICU tomorrow!

We are so excited!  As long as he does well eating and meets the "minimum" volume for tonight's shift and tomorrow, we are FREE!  We already have a million follow up appointments - pretty much every type of specialist needs to follow up with him, but I am so ready to get him out of there.  One of his primary nurses is convinced that he will not have any lasting issues from the brain damage, and I hope she is right.  He really seems like a normal baby at this point.

He had his last impatient EEG today and I am so hopeful he will have improvement again.

I had a major meltdown last night because I am still "grieving" the life we were supposed to have, but today I am ready to start whatever life we are going to have.

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.

  • Congrats!!! I know exactly how you feel.  And leaving the NICU is the best and worst feeling in the world.

I hope you get to graduate!  I have only had like 2 days since leaving the NICU at 6 days old that we've not had a doctor's appointment, lab visit, blood draw, etc.  But it was so nice (and a little scary) to have him home with us.

I've had many meltdowns too...just wanting to start our new normal and get used to the new life we are going to live.

  • YAY! Taking our baby home was the best feeling in the world! I am so happy for you! You definitely have a great attitude about ready to live whatever life you are going to have. Allow yourself to grieve, but looking on the brighter side and acceptance will do you well. Enjoy your babe at home!
