NBR- Anyone from Portland, OR?

Hello :) I'm looking at going to Portland State for Graduate school. I've visited the city twice pre-DD so I wasn't really paying attention to kid-friendly areas, good school districts, pre-schools, etc. What are the best residential areas? Do you have any tips on moving out there? Great local business/resources to check out? Thank you!

  • You might wanna try posting this on the Portland Local Bump board too. I think I have seen a few posters here from OR recently though.

...Totally forgot about the local boards. There isn't an active one where I live so I don't frequent them. Thanks!?

  • I'm from Southern Oregon, but I'm pretty familiar with Portland. In terms of schools, I think the top 3 elementary schools (at least in terms of test scores) are Duniway, Forest Park, and Hollyrood.

There are SO MANY neighborhoods in Portland that I'd really need more of your personal info (like your housing budget, how far you want to commute) to really recommend a neighborhood. Personally, I like Ash Creek, in Southwest Portland. It's known as being a pretty kid-friendly area, and there's a community center nearby.

Check out the website www.portlandconnected.com ....you can read about all the different neighborhoods there.

  • Oh, and Multnomah is really family-friendly too, and tends to have pretty reasonable (for Portland) housing!

Thanks for the advice. Multnomah is a bit far for me. I want to keep the commute small. That said, I don't have a fortune to fork over for rent every month.. I'll check out that site.

  • Hey there.....I actually went to PSU.  I lived in Beaverton while I did so.  Great area...easy commute.  Not sure about schools...  Let me know if you need anymore info.
