3rd Trimester

carrying like the baby is a boy?

I have been so emotional the past couple of days. Over the past two weeks I have had numerous friends/strangers tell me that I am "carrying" like I am having a boy???!!! I am 38 wks and am having a girl....

I have only had one anatomy ultra sound done and the tech told me she was %99.9 sure that I was having a girl at 20 wks..we all saw the three white lines in the ultra sound...

If I did end up having a boy.. I would still be thrilled.. but has this happened to any of you moms out there??

Re: carrying like the baby is a boy?

  • Yes, it has happened where people were told one sex and turns out it was the other. But I would NOT put much stock in the "carrying like it is a boy" theory! You are just big and round because you have a baby about to pop! I had one lady last time insist I was having A boy because of how round/big in front I was- but I was having TWO babies- a girl and a boy. She just looked at me like I didn't know what I was talking about.

  • Yup.  I've been told what the gender is based on my morning sickness, the way I carry this baby, the way I walk, where I have gained weight and where I haven't, etc.

I smile and say "Its fun guessing."

  • one of my friends recently said I was carrying like her and she had a boy.. It kinda made me mad. I had 3 techs tell me it was a girl and the last one gave us the ultrasound with the 3 white lines as the CONFIRMATION... people suck sometimes!!! So just don't listen!
  • Thanks girls!! Either way... all I want is a healthy baby.. but when you're heart gets set on something.. it's hard to hear something different!!
  • Sooo annoying! I have had a LOT of comments like that recently.  We don't know the gender and I find it annoying that friends and random strangers think they have special knowledge because of how i'm "carrying".

They have a 50/50 chance of being right...I will want to kick some teeth in if I hear any sort of "I knew it!" comments.  I'll want to say, "You didn't KNOW sh!t.  You just guessed correctly."

  • Ignore it. I've been told "girl" based on how I'm carrying, my horrible hyperemesis which went away for 3 weeks and now is back with a vengeance, and because of the heart rate (always in the mid-high 150s)- and we've seen our sons penis on ultrasounds 5 times now. Well, here I am assuming it's a boy based on that... it's either a boy or a girl with a penis- either way, the name is staying the same.

People are idiots. Each pregnancy is different, everyone carries differently, everyone gains weight differently and I'd be willing to bet that if your tech saw 3 white lines @ your 20 week ultrasound- you're going to be giving birth to a beautiful little girl. Don't worry :)

  • Your baby girl is also probably lower due to how far along you are... they're idiots, ignore it!

This. According to OWTs and the u/s tech, I am having a girl, too. Well, LO definitely dropped the other day and my bump definitely does NOT look the same. Don't listen to people. Idiots think they know everything. They can and will say whatever they want to annoy you. I just don't get why they mess with pregnant women. Argh.

  • Yeah- and it's funny because I'm carrying the same way I did with DS and everyone says it's a girl.

I haven't gained weight this time, I've had nausea the whole time, and I'm "carrying like the baby is a girl".

I think boy, but it is fun guessing :)

  • Just smile and nod. People always have theories about what is going on with your pregnancy. They're just making conversation and trying to be nice -- pregnancy is one of those things that triggers automatic human reactions -- it's this joyful miracle symbol of life thing and it makes people feel good to be involved.

If you don't know what you're having, smile and nod and say "we'll see!" and if you do say "That's funny, the sonograms say it's a boy..." followed by the enigmatic smile nda "we'll see" if they decide you're wrong.

    Not a big deal.

  • Wouldn't believe any of it Stick out tongue

  • Ive been told I was carrying a boy b/c I was carrying high and I've also been told I'm carrying a girl b/c I'm carrying high. Wrong on both accounts! 2 boys - ha! Ignore it. People are generally confused.

  • When people tell me that I'm carrying like it's a boy, I take it to mean that my ass hasn't gotten huge since that's the old wives' tale: carrying like it's a boy: you don't look pregnant from behind, and carrying like it's a girl: your hips are much wider than before.

Personally I wish people would just refrain from all comments about pregnancy in general. I would never talk to another woman I didn't know about her pregnancy unless she brought it up first, especially after suffering a loss of my own.

Don't worry - you are having a girl!!

Was gonna say the same thing.

  • I had someone ask if I was having a boy, based on the way i was carrying.  I told her no, we're having a girl.  She was surprised, was sure LO was a boy.  Had my DH concerned.  I said I believe the ultrasound tech and doctor over a old wive's tale.
  • well according to 99% of the old wives tales, I "should" be having a boy, I didn't have morning sickness, I didn't break out, I craved salty foods and meat,I could go on forever. Well I have had it verified in 2 ultrasounds (one being 3D) that she is all girl..Don't listen to the crazies! Wink

  • The other day I was in starbucks and one of the baristas looks at me and says "You are having a boy". So I looked right back at her and said "No, I'm having a girl". And I made sure that was the end of that!
