3rd Trimester

XP: GD bumpie..My #'s have been high the last 2 days

I haven't changed my eating habits or meal plan at all. Since I was diagnosed around 30wks I haven't had any problems keeping my numbers within range. Now this week, more specifically the last 2 days, I cannot get my numbers under 90(fasting) or 140(1hr after meals). Average has been 90-95 fasting and 141-170 1 hour after meals. What could it be? Its frustrating. I am going to give it one more day to get back in range and call my dr on Monday if it doesn't. Has anyone else had this happen?

  • As your pregnancy progresses, your diabetes will probably get harder to control.  After 36 weeks my GD has always gotten much worse and my insulin demands increase dramatically.  It is nothing that you are doing wrong.  I would call your OB on Monday.

that's what I was thinking too. I'm worried about my Dr wanting to induce me earlier. She had told me that if LO wasn't here by this Wednesday that she will induce me on Oct 4th. I'm worried that if my #'s stay out of range this weekend that she will induce me next week. It would make more sense to induce earlier than for her to put me on insulin for 6 days..at least that's what I would think..

  • I have been induced with my last two pregnancies due to GD at 39 weeks.  I would not go past 39 weeks with a GD pregnancy personally.  There are much worse thing than an induction when medically necessary.  My inductions went really well and my babies did great.  Insulin is no big deal either.  Good luck.  I know it is stressful, but a healthy baby is the ultimate goal at the end.  GD sucks.  This is my third pregnancy dealing with it.

  • You're not doing anything wrong!! As baby gets bigger and needs more insulin it gets tougher to control. :)

I'd call your doc, but if they're inducing you soon, I don't think a few days of high #'s is gonna make a big difference!
