For those who are bored...

What's the scariest situation you've ever been in?

 I would have to say the entire time the DC Sniper was on the loose.  I took the Metro every day and got on at an outdoor station.  There was one day when a bunch of us were walking from the parking lot and we heard a shot.  I've never seen so many people hit the ground so quickly.  The woman next to me asked me what that was and I told her it sounded like a .22.  I have been shooting since I was 14 so I had some idea of what I had heard.  We eventually all got us and went to the station.

Every day we all walked the platform and did a little dance - it was a bit comical, but moving targets are harder to hit.  I also had a minor heart attack when the woman was hit at the Fredericksburg Michael's.  My in-laws live right there and that woman drove the same van as my SIL.  We didn't even feel safe in our own homes!! It was a good day when that psycho was caught.

  • I remember a post just like this here a few weeks ago. And my response will be the same as it was there : being held at gunpoint in my car. (Gunman got out of the car in front of me stopped at a light in busy traffic in Philly a few days before Christmas.) Not only was I obviously terrified but I had some nice bruises on my face from having the gun shoved in it for the holidays.I am just grateful and thankful that nobody was shot or killed.

    Maybe I could dig up that post...

  • Wow, I've got nothing compared to you guys!

    Dang OBH I'm so sorry! One of my best friends was held at knife point a couple of years ago. She was really torn up about it for a long time.

    ::hugs::

    Why did a gunman get out of the car in front of you and get in your car?? Was he robbing you, since it was near the holidays?! How did you get away? That is so crazy, I can't even think of the scariest thing that's ever happened to me because I'm obsessed with your scary story!

    He was mad bc ppl were honking? I don't know? He did not rob me. I don't know why people are psychotic or why they randomly pull weapons on strangers. It sucks, though!

    I keep reading random stories in the news lately about people who get fired or laid off and come back to their jobs and go on killing sprees. It's a job. Get a new one. Get over it. I will never understand how some people are wired. :(

  • It would have to be a toss between the time I hit a moving train or when I was in high school and drove 45 minutes to the nearest mall and when I came back, my little town had been hit by a tornado.  I was trying to get to my house through all the down trees and debris and had no idea if my family was safe or not.  (luckily they all were) and at the same time knewbthat they had no idea if I was safe or not.

  • I live in Maine, the crime rate is very low around here. I've never been in a situation with a gun. One time I was at a club and a guy got stabbed in the lungs and died in front of me and my friend. It was super scary, things like that don't happen in the towns I have lived in.

    My boyfriend grew up in Memphis and said when he first moved to ME (he was a jr in high school) and heard a gun shot from people hunting, he and his mom hit to floor as fast as they could because they thought it was a drive by!!

  • Ok mine is tame by comparison, but here goes... We get tornado warnings every spring like clockwork. I've never worried much about it. Last Good Friday I went to get my haircut and was on my way to my sister's house. The wind was high, but I was just driving along without a care. All of a sudden hail starts beating my car! I knew that was not normal, so I switched on the radio (instead of CD). Tornado Warning, rotational clouds spotted in my town. I'm starting to worry now, I don't like being in cars during storms, much less tornadoes!

    So I call my sister and she says that they've seen the clouds over by where I am. I start to try to look around better and see giant greenish gray clouds. Then they start turning. I flipped my sh!t, start shaking and barely had time to pull into the next parking lot to run into an Ashley Furniture building. As I'm running in I see the tornado touch down less than 1/4 a mile away. I have never been so terrified!

    It moved away, but I was shaking for about 2 hours. Adrenaline I know, but I'll never underestimate them again. That tornado devoured neighborhoods and killed 2 people. I felt blessed that I was ok as were all of my loved ones.

  • Eek! These stories ARE scary! Not fun at all...I guess they're all worng place, wrong time scenarios but I am glad everyone is okay.

  • When I was 16 I almost drowned at Daytona Beach. I had goggles on and was looking for shells under the water, and when I stood up the one time a huge wave broke right on top of me and carried me out while holding me underwater. I will never forget seeing the air bubbles swirling around me and my arms and legs flailing all around. I finally surfaced about 30ft back from where I started. The palms of my hands were raw from grasping at the sea floor and my bikini had been torn off. So on top of going through this terrifying situation, I was now completly naked on one of the busiest beaches in the United States! I have developed an incredible fear of the ocean now and will not go near it if there are remotely any waves.
