BLW's- when was your LO ready?

So Dylan is nearing 6 months and I know that it's not a strict time zone but I was curious as to when you started and how you knew that your LO was ready?

Right now he can't sit unassisted, doesn't have much of his pincer grasp and really shows no intrest in our food when we eat yet so now that I think about it he's not really ready at all right? He doesn't have his tongue thrust reflux anymore though.

Re: BLW's- when was your LO ready?

  • I've been on and off trying for a few weeks now.

The reason I haven't been consistent is that I noticed that my little chica wasn't sleeping well (like even worse than her normal waking up 100 times a night) after trying out bananas for a few days.

I started with pieces of avocado, went onto bananas (definitely didn't sit well), and tonight she tasted some broccoli.

If you're seeing your LO isn't physically ready yet, don't push it... Us edu-ma-kated mamas know they don't need lots of food right now.

(And FYI:  just tonight for the first time did she go for the broccoli on her own completely - I just left it on her tray and she grabbed it and went right for the mouth).

(And FYI #2:  I don't know if you remember me, but I definitely like you better unpregnant Wink

  • He was actually ready before 6 months (doesn't quite have the pincer grasp down 100%) He sits unassisted and tries to grab any food that gets close to him and eat it. We've done bananas, beans and cheerios (He helped himself to my ice cream and pizza toppings...)

  • I've started allowing DS to have try things. He's been reaching for our food for a while now, sits unassisted, and doesn't have the tongue thrust reflex. However, he has yet to be successful with actually getting the food into his mouth well enough to be able to eat it.

  • Patrick just started, He sits fine if he's in something that has some support. We got a little booster seat w/ a tray and he's fine with that. He amazed me how quickly he got the idea of feeding himself, most days hed rather eat like that then BF...I think its b/c DS1 is doing it and someway he wants to already do what big brother is doing.
  • DS was ready around 5 mos.

I knew he was ready b/c he kept grabbing at our drinks and our food.  And he would drink and eat them!
