3rd Trimester

Have you ever called doc because of frequent BH?

I'm getting them like every 5 or 10 minutes right now.  They're not painful, just uncomfortable.  I'm 34.5 weeks along.  I really don't want to call the doc - they are going to make me come in as a precaution... My son is sleeping, we have no one to watch him - horrible excuse, I know, but I do not want to spend an awful night in L&D for nothing.  Ugh.

  • yes i've called.  twice.  once at 33.5 weeks.  turned out to be an irritable uterus.  and once at 35 weeks.  turned out to be real contractions.  you need to call.

  • I actually went to the ER. Have you done anything to change your position? Have you put your feet up? Drank water? If you have them lying down have you tried walking around/changing position?

I'd definitely call after another 15 minutes if nothing changes. They tried hydrating me, then gave me a couple of Terbutyline shots, then they gave me Procardia and that actually worked very well.

Did the real contrax feel like BH?  This is my second baby, and these feel like BH to me as opposed to real contractions...  :-(

yep.  i was in no pain, just knew i was having more BH than the 6 an hour my doc was okay with.  i was very surprised when they told me i was having real contractions.  however because i was 35w and my doc won't stop labor after that point, she let me walk out still contracting.  you're still early enough though that they'll try to stop you probably.

  • I have had frequent BHs but I drank a lot of water and rested before I called.  I figured I was probably dehydrated.

If they didn't go away and lasted a while I would have called though.

  • My OB told me that if I get more then 5 in one hour to call, contractions can come with out pain.  You should really call just to be on the safe side.
  • After walking on the treadmill (and I mean walking, slowly), the other day, I started to get them every two-five minutes for about an hour, then it slowed down to about every ten minutes for the next few hours. I decided not to call or do anything as it was late at night, so I went to bed and when I woke up they had calmed down. If they had continued through the night (waking me) or the next day, I would have called.

  • Please call if you have them!  I had them a few days ago for an extended while and my know-it-all-not-want-to bother-anyone self wound up in ob triage with dehydration after my husband made me call.  My doctor's rule is any more than 5 an hour for whatever reason warrants a phone call.
