3rd Trimester

f/u (bleeding) sent to l&d

I definitely had a rough morning, and was not sure what to think. I ended up waiting for DD to wake up from her nap, so that DH could come home and go with us. We moved down here a month ago, and I don't have anyone to leave her with yet, so it's easier to have him with me than torture the poor child. No more bleeding since this morning, but I was having some pretty heavy contractions. They gave me a shot of something, monitored me a bit longer, and sent me home. Not really sure what to think right now... they didn't explain much about what the medication would do other than slow/stop contractions - I'm not sure how long it works, if I need another one, or what. Good news is, my cervix is still closed, so hopefully that buys me some more time. I have an OB appointment Tuesday, so I'm hoping for better info. then.

Thanks for smacking some sense into me today ladies... sometimes I get overwhelmed and stupid Huh?

  • Did your heart race after the shot?  They probably gave you brethine, I've had it too many times to count.  It usually gets them stopped and then since your ute calms down you don't have any more.  If you start having contractions again you'll have to go back so they can give you another shot.  Just take it easy and make sure you are drinking a TON of water.  Remember you may spot from the internal too, but it shouldn't be heavy or bright red.  Get some rest this weekend.

  • Thanks!

Angel - I was surprised, but no bed rest or any other instructions until Tuesday. It's a new hospital for me, and quite frankly, today made me REALLY miss home.

Cheebe -  My heart definitely was racing. I felt like I was had 5 shots of espresso, and was a bit dizzy. That sounds like what the nurse told me it was, but I don't remember. Of course this is the weekend DH is on duty, so no rest for momma unless DD decides to nap a lot  ::fingers crossed!::

  • I'm really surprised they gave you terbutaline when you had bleeding. Normally with bleeding they give magnesium (with an IV drip for at least 24 hours) since anything like terbutaline that can cause your heart to race can be bad for bleeding since it might worsen bleeding that you don't see.

Also surprised they didn't give you any restrictions. If I were you, I would put myself on couch potato rest!

I think it's because I had very minimal bleeding over night, and then not again at all for the rest of the day... but I don't know!

I'm planning on spending the weekend on the couch, feeling guilty watching DD entertain herself while DH works.
