My dr doesnt have equipment in her office, since she has a small practice- with that said...she ordered me to go have a 38wk sonogram yesterday bc she was worried I wasnt big enough/baby might not be growing enough. I am tall, so all along, she has been saying I have a large cavity to hide the baby, but since my measurements weren't growing much the past 2 visits, she ordered the sonogram. (which is odd, I was told I would only have more if something was wrong)
Sonogram showed the baby to be measuring between 35 and 38 weeks, depending on the body area, but moreso, showed breech- which Dr was not aware of...so she called me this afternoon and left a msg for me to meet her in L&D tomorrow at 8am for a "non-stress test". I missed her call and couldn't get her when I called the office back...said she wants to monitor the baby and since she is breech, we "might be having her early".
Hearing a Dr tell me to meet them early, 8am, at L&D, on a Saturday is a bit alarming. Esp bc I thought breech wasn't anything to worry too terribly much about. Do you think I should assume we are meeting there bc that is the only equip she has access too (since her office lacks it)? Or should I worry that I might have this baby tomorrow? We are taking bags with us, and finishing up everything here tonight, just in case, but I just want to know if my mind can be at ease....
Re: breech at 38wks- questions
A non stress test is a pretty simple routine procedure where monitors are placed on your belly to watch your baby's heart beat and your contractions (if you are having any).
It is possible that your doctor is looking into doing a version. You can google ECV or External Cephalic Version to see a video of the process. During the process baby has to be on the monitors and there is a risk of early delivery either because labor starts or because the ECV causes stress to baby. I would definitely keep trying to get a hold of your doctor if possible so you can clarify what her plans are for tomorrow.
I think it is because this is the only equipment she has access too. But I would be prepared. baby at 38wks will be just fine.
Because she is breech so late you will probably have a C-section she shoudl have turned a couple of weeks ago.
Good Luck. You will do just great either way.
I don't know based on any kind of particular experience or anything, but I imagined that she probably is meeting you there on a Saturday because she doesn't have access to the equipment she needs, and since you're already (potentially) so far along, she'd rather do it sooner than later. Good to bring your stuff just in case!
Also, I wanted to mention that, just because the baby is breech, there's nothing that says you have to have a c-section. I was a breech baby and my mom actually had me naturally. And now they have all sorts of things they can do to potentially get the baby in the right position before birth.
Either way, try not to worry too much! Just think, if "worst" comes to "worst," you may be meeting your little one tomorrow! And if not tomorrow, very soon!
