TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Damn it all. (RPL test results mentioned)

I just got home from the hospital with a damn horrible kidney infection and the RE called me with my test results.  I came back positive for 3 of 5 blood clotting issues.  I don't know specifics but that means I will be on Heparin (Lovenox) injections my entire pregnancy.  So let's just add this to the list of FVCKED UP THINGS THAT KEEP ME FROM GETTING AND STAYING PREGNANT.

Not only are my damn tubes clubbed and blocked with tissue AND I have PCOS, but I JUST NOW find out about this damn blood clotting disorder.  Sure would have been nice to know BEFORE my last IVF so that I wouldn't have lost that baby.

I FVCKING HATE INFERTILITY AND I HATE MY BODY!  HATE IT!

  • I'm so so sorry honey. I wish they would have done the clotting testing before your IVF but at least you know now. Also, at least you know before you have a stroke. I've seen a couple of women who had strokes during childbirth and were in rehab. My hematologist said she never had a complication (in terms of clots) with a patient that she KNEW to have a problem vs the women that come to her in the middle of the pregnancy with all sorts of issues. It is horrible sucky news though! 3 clotting conditions is a lot but at least they're all treated the same. I hope you feel better soon.
  • I am so sorry, Kelin. I do hope that the heparin will make all of the difference. I am very sorry this wasn't known before. ((hugs))

  • Hugs, hon. I am right there with you with hating my body and IF.   There is a donated med thing on the IF board, would they be able to offer you lovenox?  Also, I think hbkisses is going through something similar.  I remember her getting good advice on it.  Maybe some of it could be helpful to you.  Here is the clicky to the post.

Heparin or Lovenox? They are actually different - Heparin is twice a day, Lovenox is once. But the Heparin is easier flushed out of your system, so regardless, you will be put on it most likely close to delivery (that way you can have a lovely epi).

Did they say anything about baby aspirin and a FA routine as well?

  • Big huge (((HUGS))).

  • Sh!t, you've gotta be kidding me.  I really wish they'd run these tests before IVF...

In any event, the good news is that you have a plan, and the Lovenox could really help ensure that your next IVF cycle gets you your take-home baby.  It really sucks, but like everything else, you'll make it through.

  • I'm sorry.  And I'm sorry that they didn't do this testing before.  But I'm glad that you can at least address it from here on out.  I think we all know what it's like to hate/blame your body.  :(  Glad you get to go on vacation soon & hope the relaxation/distraction really helps!

The nurse on the phone said Heparin specifically, but I want to talk to the doctor when he calls me back and find out exactly what they plan.  They didn't say anything about baby aspirin or FA, but I imagine when we do my FET next month they will get me all lined out.  It's just such a cluster.  I hate all this!

    I know. It's a b!tch.

I wish they would have run these tests before doing IVF the first time. Seems like you're playing catch up now, through no fault of your own.

But at least maybe here is a plan that is going to work. The injections aren't fun, but they are doable and I know you can handle it.

  • I'm sorry, Kelin.  I wish they'd tested for this before your IVF.  I know it sucks, but you know now and I hope that means the heparin will do the trick next time.  Hugs!

Yes, I'll do it.  I don't have a choice.  Been through so much I can't turn back now.  This just means that I'll be doing 2-4 shots a day with all the PIO and heparin.  I am going to be leaking water through holes in my body all over the place.

  • RPL panels are so much cheaper than an IVF cycle, that I think they should run one for all women before doing IVF. I mean it's usually between $1000 - $1500 (from my understanding). Wouldn't insurance rather pay for that before paying $20,000 for an IVF that might end in m/c because they didn't test?

Im sorry you got sucky results.

  • I'm sorry I am so late to respond, I'm sorry you have stupid clotting disorders. I wish they would have found it sooner. Grr. I'm glad you know you have to take the heparin though.
