We have 3 cars technically (one is broke down but fixable.) The only car that is super baby friendly would be the trailblazer. The Cavalier doesn't have AC and is really old. But at least it is 4 doors. The Escort we own is a 2 door so there is no way it will work very well.
I guess I don't really understand the question. Are they looking at having only one car fit the kids, etc?
Right now both kids fit in both of or cars. If we were to have another one we would need a bigger car.
We are choosing to get a SUV in a year or so, but that is only so we have more room to do weekend trips and carry stuff that cars can't.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. The husband wants to get a car that will not hold their children, stating that they mostly use his wife's car. He doesn't think he needs a car that will hold all of their children.

That dude needs a reality check. What if there is an emergency and he needs to transport the kids? Not to mention just being practical.

What she said. DH sometimes has to get LO from daycare if I can't or am working later than he is. Also, if there were an emergency and I had the SUV he would need to get her to a hospital somehow.
Yes our cars accomodate our family. We bought a Tahoe in the spring to accomodate for future children. It can fit 8 and DH's Vibe can fit 5, so there will be a point when we can't all fit in his car.
when he was born we had 2 cars, but really he could only fit in mine. after almost a year of switching cars between us and an all around hate for the other persons vehicle, MH got a different truck, and now both vehicles accommodate and have car seats for the little one. it reduced so much stress
No. We have a Jeep Laredo that is our family car and I have a carolla that we use just to get to and from work. It's a bit beat up and gets hit so I didn't see the point of getting a new car just yet.
BUT... we also have my ILs up stairs and can use MILs car if needed, we keep a baby seat in there just in case.
I don't think you HAVE to have 2 cars that easily accommodate all your kids, and it's certainly not practical if you have 4 kids. Growing up, my mom always had a big car, and my dad drove a Nissan/Datsun Z. The Z would fit my sister and I if needed, but we usually took my mom's car.
I don't think it's necessarily a requirement that all cars be able to accomodate all of the family members, but I think it's important for both parents to be on the same page about it. If both parents regularly tote around the kids and they would end up switching cars all the time to be able to do that, I don't think it's worth it.
If they agree to purchase a car that won't seat but one passenger, there are other options in cases of emergency--ambulances, cabs, public transportation, etc.

What if car 1 breaks down and they have to use car 2 until it's fixed?
Tell him to have his midlife crisis another time and get a family car.
For the 1st year of DS's life we had only one vehicle that would accommodate a car seat. DH was driving a Ford Ranger, which did not have a back seat. It worked for us for awhile, but once we were ready to buy a new car we got rid of the truck and got a second family car.

I agree with this. I have a van that can hold up to 4 children in carseats (and gets crappy MPGs, but I only drive around town). My husband works and drives for work so he has a compact sedan that gets 30mpg. Right now, both of our kids fit in both vehicles but when #3 comes along, my car
will be it. DH doesn't need a mega car that sucks down gas just in case of emergency.
If you count only humans, yes, our cars will both fit our family as it is right now.
I have an Expedition, bought with the long view of 2 more kids, plus our dogs.
We bought DH's Grand Prix several years ago when we only had 1 child and 1 dog. We can fit everyone in it, but it is very squished as-is, so if we have another child, the dogs won't fit.
And k8 - I totally tried to squish the bug in your siggy

I have a Jeep and DH has a beater he just takes to the train station and then home again.
I hope the Jeep fits baby and Doodle. It's going to have to. Scout has a rude awakening coming in April, in terms of stretching out over the backseat.
The wife's point of view is the same as yours. She is worried about emergencies, they have 3 kids. The car he wants, can only hold 2.
Lame. A two seater, really?
Maybe as a 3rd car. But not for a primary car. That would not fly in my house.
Is he having a mid life crisis? lol

"It's a child, not a cheeto" Thanks mmariluh!
