I know a few of us December moms are starting to have trouble with painful or frequent Braxton-Hicks contractions. I've been to the doctor and am on Vistaril and restricted activity as we monitor the situation, so I know I'm in good hands, but I'd love to hear from some moms who are further along than me about how things have gone with their situations.
If you had issues with BHs early in the 3rd Tri, how have things progressed from there? After treating with an Rx, were you able to resume normal activities or did you have to rest for the remainder of your pregnancy? Did things get better or worse? Does it look like you'll go to full-term or deliver early?
TIA for any stories or advice!

Re: Anyone have painful/frequent BHs early but make it to term successfully?
I can't see your ticker so I don't know how far along you are. I started having BH's at 27 weeks but wasn't put on any rx or bed rest. I went several weeks before another episode. The last 3 weeks have been the worst. I'm still not on any rx but I'm on modified bed rest. I haven't been back to L&D since Sunday, which is a record for the last few weeks. I'm 50% effaced and just dilated a fingertip. I went yesterday and the doc isn't sure if I will make it or not.
My advice would be to really take it easy. I know it's hard, especailly on days I feel good, but drink lots of water and find something to do to pass the time. I'll be considered "full term" in two weeks, however, my doc won't stop contractions after next Friday since I'll be 36 weeks. HTH
Thanks for the info! I'm actually just 29 weeks today, so the doctor said the next four or so weeks are very critical.
Glad to hear that you're getting close to 36 weeks. It must feel good to be in the home stretch.
so my reply ended up kind of long but here it is...
my BH started at 23w. they weren't painful and i always stayed under the 4 or 6 an hour. then at 33w i started cramping. on call dr told me to go to L&D and they told me that my uterus was irritable. they gave me a shot of terbutaline in the hospital but i was sent home after three hours. no bed rest or medication. at 35w i realized i was having about 10 BH contractions an hour so i called my doc and she told me to go back to L&D. turns out my still not painful BH were real contractions. i was 1cm dilated and 70% effaced. contractions weren't regular so my doc sent me home. still no bed rest or medication. i've been contracting for the past week. they've gotten stronger every day but still have no pattern. i have a dr appointment today so we will see if i've made any more progress. at this point we're just hoping LO will stay in as long as possible but my doc won't stop labor (which is why she hasn't done anything to stop my contractions.
Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!
i have had WAY more BH in both pregnancies than 4 an hr- all day long.
Never been medicated and both of my births were overdue. each by at least a week.
I've had painful BH and prodromal labor with both of my previous pregnancies AND this one.
With DD, they started at about 34 weeks, progressing to as many as 20-30/hour from 36-39 weeks. They stopped at that point (I broke my tailbone and the doctor thought this set me back) and didn't begin again until I went into natural labor at 41w3d.
With DS, they started at about 28 weeks, progressing just the same (20-30/hour) from about 34 weeks on. I had weekly cervical checks that showed I was dilated at 28w "a fingertip", by 36w to 1, 38w to 2, and at 40w when I was induced, I was 2/50% effaced.
So far with this DD, they started at around 26w. I still don't have much more than 6/hour at this point, but I've increased my fluid intake exponentially (well over 100oz/day) and this helps. Additionally, I spend about 2 hours a day on my side resting. I think this helps keep everything in control. Cervical scan showed my cervix at nearly a 4, posterior, hard, and shut up tight like a drum.
