Pregnant after a Loss

will you bring baby clothes to the hospital?

My DS was about 3 weeks early, my water broke at work and I had to go straight to the hospital.  I had no bag packed, and DH ended up running to the mall to get the "coming home" outfit.  When DS was in the hospital, he just wore the shirts and hats they provided.  I've been seeing a lot more pics of babies in the hospital wearing other clothes.

Will you bring other things for the LO to wear in the hospital?

  • I hadn't really thought that far ahead yet but yes, I'm guessing I'll have him wear a coming home outfit.

  • I'm an L&D nurse, and at our hospital it is policy for our babies to stay in the t-shirt/hat combo.  Of course cute outfits are encouraged for the photographer and when leaving, but other than that, t-shirts and hats are it.  Plus, it's so much easier to change the diapers when they aren't all dressed up!!

  • I didn't with my first two, other than their coming home outfits... but with this one, I have an outfit for the hospital and then a coming home outfit that I'll have her wear.  I figure, why not?  Its my last little baby, I'm living it up!
  • I'm bringing a few extra onesies and knit pants for while we're still in the hospital. I also have a special coming home outfit, but that's just because we're stopping at my grandparents house on the way home.
  • At my hosital the baby rooms in 24 hours a day so I may bring something for him since it won't be inconvienencing the nurses. Just some onesies and maybe a little pair of pants. But of course he will have his coming home outfit.

  • Nope.

I want my baby-in-hospital to look like a baby who belongs in the hospital, so she'll stay in the shirt/diaper combo the hospital puts her in.

Until it's time to go home.  She will, however, have cute homemade hats and mittens.  :)

  • We are bringing a couple of different outfits to the hospital.  I will keep her in the onesie / hat hospital combo while we are staying but plan to pack an outfit for her newborn pictures and then a coming home outfit.  My mom got her the cutest little dress with matching hat for pictures.

I have two different coming home outfits since I have no idea how big she will be.  One is newborn size and the other is 0-3 months.  That way I figure we have all the bases covered.

  • I'm a postpartum nurse and I love it when babies have their own clothes. They just seem much more like individuals when they're not all wearing the same thing. Sure, it takes an extra minute or two to get them undressed for assessments/weighing but that doesn't bother me. I also like it when parents have pants for their babies to help keep them warm. We just have shirts for them and their little legs are all exposed. I plan on bringing tons of stuff.
