s/o stretch marks in a bikini... your opinion please

Why is it taboo for stretch marks + bikini? I'm not trying to be critical, but I'm really curious. I've heard this from a few people, including my sister who said that I'd understand once I go through it... but now that I have 'em, I still say F it. Once I'm back in bikini shape, I don't care who sees my stretch marks. Do other people take offense to seeing stretch marked bellies? How is it different from ladies who wear bikinis and tattoos... other than the fact that stretch marks are unintentional and more subtle?

  • I have stretch marks from my pregnancy with my first child and I still wear my bikini.  Wore my bikini through this pregnancy too!  I don't give a crap what anyone else thinks...as long as I feel comfortable that's all that matters.

  • If I saw a mother with stretch marks I wouldn't judge her because I know that they are something you can't control....it happens, you get pregnant, you get stretch marks.

I personally am too shy to show mine.  I didn't wear a suit all summer and I live 2 blocks from the beach.  If you are comfortable with flaunting the stretchies then I applaud you, I'm too much of a chickenshit to do that.

  • It's not that it is taboo but maybe unfashionable. You can do what you like, but you risk people thinking you look bad...

Hmm... I guess one of the reasons I don't have a problem with showing stretch marks is because I've never seen them as looking bad on someone. It's not like they have a choice in getting them. I'd be more judgmental for belly flab or body hair, but for some reason, I just don't see why people are ashamed of stretch marks. (Yet. We'll see if I change my tune next summer, I suppose.)

Who care's what anyone else thinks?  Unfashionable?  haha, As lond as I feel confident and comfortable in anything I wear then that's all that matters....Its sad when one worries more about what others think of them then their own self confidence.

  • I think if my stretch marks ended up looking like this...

...then I wouldn't be wearing a bikini.  Mild stretch marks don't bother me at all.

  • It depends what the stretch marks/belly look like. If they're faded then oh well. If they're bright red like the pic above I would never show my stomach in public.

  • I think it depends on the stretch marks...but to compare stretch marks to some ink well that's ridiculous!
  • I have faded ones on my hips and inner thighs from puberty that aren't very noticeable and can't be hidden by any bathing suit so I figure if my belly is the same, it will all blend together. No point in discriminating against the belly marks if the hip marks get to shine!
