Yeah, she's in SoCal. That's an awesome state law and should be mandated in every state. If I had an opportunity for all of that I may have considered going back to work, but we got like 3 weeks. Boo!
CA law is actually for just 4 weeks prior to delivery, so she gets something even better
And it's not necessarily paid depending on your company. My company only pays 2 weeks before.
She's given full pay for the 6 weeks prior and then half pay for the first 6 weeks after baby, 30% for the next 6 weeks. I think it's such an awesome plan. I'm totally jealous!
Sometimes I LOVE being Canadian. Everyone here is guaranteed a year (you can take some before you deliver if you choose) and you are paid through unemployment insurance....so not through your employer. It depends on how much you make what you bring home but a basic guideline is if you are making over about 35K a year, you'll take home the maximum of $1500 a month. If you have a good employer, like I do (federal government - military) you get 93% of your full salary for a year. I have heavy student loans from law school and couldn't manage on the $1500, so this is essential..and what I kept repreating to myself when I was marching with a hundred pounds on my back for 13km on Basic Training. I have six weeks of work left!

Wow.. I would love to have a little time off before he gets here (so I don't go into labor at work, as the students would be "Sorry about that, so what about my classes?") but gotta save it all for after.
