On Sunday I was admitted to the hospital because I had some bleeding. Once hooked to monitors they noticed I was having contractions every 5-10 min apart. Im only 29 weeks. They put me on bed rest (which sucks!!!!) but here I am 4 days later, and the bleeding has stopped but I still have a brown discharge. Its sometimes thick, and sometimes gooey, and sometimes it appears to have this hard piece in it (yes I look at it)
The dr's had no clue why I was bleeding. My cervix is still closed, but VERY soft they said. I dont remember this with DS. Has anyone had this?
Re: Discharge.... TMI
Did they test you for any kind of infections? The brown discharge is most likely from old blood but it could also indicate a bacterial infection...which are also linked to pre-term labor. You might want to ask if they tested you for those just to be safe.
I hope you are able to return home soon! I can sympathize with you on being on bedrest. I am in my 36th week now, but started having blood in my discharge back at the end of May. At first I went straight to the hospital and the midwife gave me an internal and found no evidence of blood. However to cover all bases sent me for an ultrasound the next day. The ultra sound showed that there was blood collecting between my placenta and uterus and they said my placenta had a small tear in it. A couple weeks later, I had a follow up ultra sound and the tear seemed to heal. Since that date, I have been on bed rest and then I my Dr. loosened up and put me on restricted activity (no cleaning, exercising, cooking, shopping, basically everything. I had to put my three year old in daycare full time b/c I really just had to be on the couch as much as possible). Every time I do any sort of extended activity, which includes just bending over to help my daughter get on the potty or cleaning a few dishes, I continue to have bloody discharge like you and sometimes it is brown or has dried clots. It's never been a flowing blood like a period or anything...always in the discharge...very weird.
I notice also that after doing too much (which really is not anything at all) a couple days later, I have the bleeding. It's a pattern and when I mentioned this to my Dr. he said that it takes time for the blood to travel from your uterus. Since the "tear" in the placenta had seemed to heal so long ago, I questioned my Dr., then why do i still bleed? he responded with no pure, definitive answer. But, he did suggest that sometimes your placenta can bleed in a sensitive spot but an ultrasound may not detect it b/c it takes a lot of blood to show up in the image. So, I guess this is what I have. It's really hard though not being able to do the things you use to do. It's made me crazy having to keep such a low activity for this long. I hope you heal up and that you have a risk-free, healthy pregnancy. I know, it's worrisome. Oh, my cervix wasn't soft or anything. If you have any other questions, let me know. I always wondered if their was anyone out there with the same situation as myself. Best of luck!!!
