Fetal fibronectin test??

i had my appt today with my OB and we talked about me having what i think are Braxton Hicks contractions on an almost daily basis. i told her that i was trying to drink more water and change my position, etc. i have read some on how to make them go away. i am really trying to do what i can to get them to go away. they are getting bad. they hurt and make my whole abdomen really tight. i never had them with DD so its all new to me.

so anyway, i talked to my OB about them and she wants me to go to L&D tomorrow to do an ultrasound to check the length of my cervix and do the Fetal fibronectin test. OB just wants to make sure that i am not at risk for PTL which is fine for me. LO need to stay in the oven for as long as possible.

has anyone taken this test and what came of it? TIA

Re: Fetal fibronectin test??

  • Yes...it is not that bad.  They just put a long Q-tip up your vagina and swipe your cervix.  Don't have sex for 24 hours before the test, because it could cause a false positive.
  • Loading the player...
  • It's like a pap smear without any lube. they can't use gel because it can cause a false positive. It's quite uncomfortable
  • thanks for letting me know. too bad that is not an issue.... lol! sex is non-existent right now..... but thanks so much!

  • It was quick and painless for me. I had to wait in L & D though for 90 minutes waiting for results. So, pack a lunch! ;)
  • I've had two so far this pg. I had ptl with DD #2 and have been having BH since 17 weeks. A couple of times they have become regular and timeable, so dr. wanted to do the FFN test. It was pretty uncomfortable the second time, but it was nice to have answers.
  • I had to have it done about 2 weeks ago. It was not painful, just annoying. I also had to go to L&D because my contractions couldn't be explained (wasn't dehydrated, didn't have a UTI, etc.) so my doc wanted me hooked up to a fetal monitor while I awaited results from the FFN test.
