Calamine Lotion

Ok, so I am lucky enough to have poison ivy/oak (not sure which) on my belly. As if the stretch marks weren't enough. It's just in an isolated spot under my belly button and I was wondering if anyone knows if calamine lotion is considered OK to use while pregnant? I called the doctor, but they already have the answering service on. Ugh. I would love to bathe in this stuff right now, so hopefully I don't have to wait until tomorrow. The bottle says nothing about use during pregnancy. Anyone use it while pregnant?

Re: Calamine Lotion

  • I'm not sure the answer to your question, but I am curious as to how you got poison oak in an isolated spot under your belly button...

  • haha I knew someone would ask that! DH was ripping down a vine/bush a few days ago, and has it all over his face. I am assuming that I got it from him laying his head on my belly, which he likes to do if we are watching TV so he can feel the baby move. That's my only explanation I have hahaha.
  • Calamine lotion is safe to use but I have found that it wears off rather quick. Aveeno anti-itch cream works well too.  I go straight to warm salt water if I get poison oak. It doesn't help the itching but it will dry it up.

    Thanks so much!?

  • Without any gardening, I've had an itchy area around my belly button and the doc recommended hydrocortisone....it worked really well.
