I have looked through many, many posts and I can't seem to find the answer I am looking for. So for fear of being redundant I must ask, how many covers is a good number to start with for a prefold and cover system?
For me, 6 or more would be a good number, because DD was a pooping machine in the early days and I went through an amazing number of covers because of EBF poo going everywhere. Once I got better at folding them and she got a little older it was better.
For the newborn stage I always recommend six. We started with four and DD would often soil all of them in one day. She pooped a lot and it was very runny. You can get more use out of them if you buy Thirsties Duos, since they cover xs and s sizes.
I have 8 and go through maybe 4-6 of them and I wash every 3rd day. We put the cover in the wetbag at the end of the day and then poops that get through b/c my prefold folds are lacking.
I had 5 and there were times I found myself wishing we had more. We always got by, but sometimes I did have to do laundry again before it really needed it because DS would poop so many times/day.

I had 6 but we really only used 4.
Also, this is a good place to start for info.
