Natural Birth

why so many lurkers on this board?

Why are there so many posts with 100+ views and, like, 3 responses on this board?  We have 37 people check in on the weekly check-ins, but it seems like few post?

not aimed at anything in particular, just a trend I have noticed.

Re: why so many lurkers on this board?

  • Maybe we get a lot of curious eyes since it's a pretty particular mindframe we have over here.  I don't know!  People thinking about having a natural birth but not sure, people who think we're crazy and want to watch us be crazy... lol.

  • Guilty! I lurk here a lot. I've very recently decided to try to have a natural birth, and I like reading what people have to say, but don't have much input to give myself.
  • I dunno, I feel like I post on every thread, hee hee. But I agree, I think there's a ton of lurkers on all the bump boards...

  • Maybe because there are a lot of questions about natural birth that only women who have gone through it can answer, and a lot of first timers want to read the replies? And like pp said, I read certain posts multiple times to see what others are saying. It could also be that some people just want to check in on the "crazies" :).

Ditto all of this - I'm sure it's quite the mixture.  There have been many threads where I want to know answers from people who have more input about a specific thing, but I have nothing to add because I don't have any experience with it.

  • I lurk a lot on this board and have only posted or replied a handful of times.  I guess because I still have a lot of time left, and I've never gone natural before, I don't feel like I have a lot to contribute at this point.  I'm just trying to learn as much as I can from everyone elses experiences.  I'm sure the further along I get, you will all get annoyed with me :)

    But I don't know whether I have a response until I've opened a post.

And like others have said, I also like to read the answers that others have posted.

  • (comes out of hiding)....I stalk this board for succesfull VBAC stories. We are not TTC #2 yet which is why I lurk. I'm not 100% convinced a natural birth is for me but I am 100% convinced that a repeat c-section is not for me. I know a natural birth will give me the best shot to avoid being cut again so lurking here is like getting into a cold pool one toe at a time.

Not to mention the question/answers are really helpful and informative. :o) Love this board!

Pretty much this. I feel like I don't know very many of you at all and don't want to just start jumping in adding my two cents and have you go "wtf is she?" ;)

  • I lurk because I plan to become a midwife. Reading the stories and concerns of mothers is helping me form the ideals I would like to practice by.
  • I lurk because I want to have a natural birth, but I'm not even pregnant yet.  I like to her the stories and read the informational topics, but I don't feel like I have anything of value to add right now.  When I get pregnant I will probably start posting.  :)

This, plus if a few people already gave the poster the same answer I was going to, I don't post it again.

I keep forgetting to do the check-ins.  I started hanging out on this board before I was pregnant, and now I keep forgetting how far along I am :)

  • I'm new here - just found this board today and started lurking Smile  I guess I should have introduced myself!  I recognize some of you from other boards.  I had a NB with DS and plan to do the same with baby #2 (starting TTC early next year, I hope).  I love reading NB stories and I'm starting to contemplate what I want for #2 - MW at the hospital (like DS), free standing birth center or home birth.  I had such a wonderful experience with DS that I feel a little like I'd be ditching the fantastic MWs if I don't deliver with them again.  I'm not sure DH would agree to home birth.  We'll see...

  • My natural birth didn't pan out, and I don't plan on being PG again, so I don't have a lot to add ... but I like to check-in and see how you girls are doing.  Particularly the VBAC hopefuls.

It's really less stalkerish than it sounds. lol

That's me too! Ha! I just found this board a couple of weeks ago, I am 40weeks and 1 day preggo, so really I am just looking for encouragement ... I'm pretty late to this party.

  • Well, I rarely ever post because I'm not even pregnant yet!  But already decided on an independent birth center for when I am. :)  Mostly I just read and glean information here...

  • (coming out of hiding)  I've been lurking because we are currently TTC #2 and I'm trying to figure out if a NB is right for me.

I was induced, pitocin, epidural, etc for DD #1.  I had a difficult pregnancy and was terrified of the labor, but after it was all over I realized that labor and delivery was the best part of it all.  My epidural had worn off right as I entered transition and got to pushing and I loved it.  I wonder how the experience of giving birth would be different if I had a NB.  So I just lurk so I can hopefully figure things out.  Maybe when I'm actually pregnant I'll have some questions or something to add to the conversation and will officially come out of lurkdom.  =)

  • I lurk way more than I post! Mostly because you girls have usually got the OP's questions covered, IMO. If I think I have something to contribute I do, but having not given birth yet, I only have theoretical imput to contribute. Even though my girlfriends are all very supportive of my NB decision, and thankfully I've had to hear very little of the whole "well, we'll see what you think once you get into labor" or "you don't get a medal you know" thing, it's nice to come in here and see women who have had the births I'm hoping and planning for. It makes me feel like less of a "crazy"!

  • I lurk because I do most of my bumping from my ipod while at the gym so it's a pain to post.  I never remember to get back on a computer when I get home to do the check in.  I'll try to do the check in next week though.

  • I mostly lurk, so I'll answer :-)  I only get on here and there so I feel that nobody knows me-therefore any posts I make about myself won't get much response.  I am trying to learn but don't have much to contribute, so I don't respond to posts much.  Also, I think a lot of people are curious about why on earth we'd choose to go natural when there are epidurals.  I personally hated the epidural, but everyone is different!  Just my thoughts.

The same here except I have had only 1 NB.  I like to share my experiences but most of the time by the time I get around to responding someone has already said what I was going to.
