25 bottles

Will that be enough? I'll be pumping or formula-feeding.

Re: 25 bottles

  • Well as NB, they'll want to eat 8-12 times per day meaning you will use between 24-36 bottles every day.  I don't know what bottles you have/are getting, but we have the Evenflo cheepies from BRU (is $9.99 for 12, they work great for us) and we have around 30ish right now.  I try to run the dishwasher nightly, but sometimes the only thing in there is bottles so I won't run it.  I know how busy I am, I can't imagine how busy you'll be with 3 babies, I think the last thing you're going to want to do is stop and wash bottles 1/2 way through the day.

As far as what bottles to use (and I know you didn't ask this) I would start with cheap bottles.  Sure your babies might be gassy, but they might not.  If you start with cheap bottles, you're not out much money if you have to buy expensive bottles, but starting with expensive bottles when you don't need them is going to cost you way more.  Dr. Brown's sell for $2+ USED at our MOTC sale, I don't even know how much they are new to sell for that much used.  My bottles are less than $1 each, if I leave one in the car (which seems to always happen with the hustle and bustle of getting everyone in the house at once), I have no problem just tossing it.

  • It should be fine. We had 24, and used that many every day. Over time, I got some more, just to have on hand, but 24 should be fine. It won't be forever that they're eating 8x a day, after all.

  • i think so...we have 16 and that is plenty. I didn't want to get alot of 4oz bottles because if the boys are anything like my oldest son, they will be eating more than 4 oz in no time :-P

One of the twins already eats 4oz at a feeding and he is just almost 3 weeks :-P the other eats 3oz

  • I totally skipped the little bottles & got all 9 oz. bottles. They're easier to "hold" with your chin. Big Smile
  • I'm the odd one out. We only have 6 4-oz bottles and 6 9-oz bottles (we use Avent), and really we just started with the 6 small ones. We also have the bottles that come with the Medela pump, so we use those sometimes too - pretty handy to just pump and then put a nipple on them. We have 5 5-oz and 3 8-oz Medela bottles, but again we just started with the small ones and bought the bigger ones when we needed them. We just wash bottles and pump parts a few times a day. That's worth it to us to avoid having to find room to store a million bottles.

this is very true. we used the drop-ins, and since they're open on the bottom, it's a perfect spot to put your chin. :D

  • We had 20 Dr. Browns 8oz wide necks that we bought at www.csnbaby.com (cheap!). I always washed bottles once or twice a day and never even came close to using all twenty. We have 6 for each baby on hand right now and the most that piles up is 4 each, thats if I only wash in the morning...

We also skipped the 4 oz bottles all together and it was a good thing we did because they started drinking 6oz really quickly. Plus it just saved money you can also put 4oz in an 8 oz bottle....

  • We started with only four 4oz Dr. Browns bottles. I know it sounds crazy, but it worked for us. We would just use two at a time and then wash them really quick. Super easy.

And I EP, so I just pumped into the two empty Dr. Browns bottles (if they were clean b/c they fit with the pump) or the medela bottles that came with pump.

THIS! :)  I didn't buy any 4oz bottles either, seemed like a waste.  Especially when you're buying bottles for mulitple babies!   I think 25 would be a good start for sure, see how it goes, you can always buy more.  OR, buy another pack or two before the babies are born, tape the receipt to it (so you don't lose it).  If you decide you want them, you have them.  If you decide you don't need them, the receipt is right there, return them.  I don't know if you plan to wash them by hand or in a dishwasher?  If you have a dishwasher I say go that route!  I had enough bottles to last the whole day so that I could just run  a load each night.  MOST dishwashers have a sanitize setting (which I LOVE) so you know your bottles are being cleaned well and YOU don't have to do the washing!  You'll have plenty else to do!  Also I highly reccomend a cheap bottle drying rack.  I didn't buy one until later and it's so nice to use.  I still use mine now for sippy cups and other random plastic pieces.

  • Sounds like plenty, we needed alot in the beginning and are now down to 8 a day.
  • Ours ate 8-9 times/day at the most early on.  I think you're covered with 25.  I wish I'd had that many, cause I was always washing to catch up.

  • We had 32 for my 4 and it worked out perfect.  One per baby per feeding!

This.  The NICU had my babies on a 3 hours feeding schedule (8 times a day) when they first came home, so we had 24 bottles and prepped enough for one days worth.  Eventually you'll need less as they start dropping feedings and sleeping longer stretches of time.

  • If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have spent the $ on the smaller 4oz bottles.  We used the drop ins and the small liners would have worked in the 8oz bottles.  I wasted money on the small bottles, the only difference was the length.  The rings/nipples/caps/liners were all interchangable.  Like others said, its easier to hold with your chin too:)
