Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Anyone start LO on cereal before 4 months?

and if so, how much before?  DS has AR and is on Enfamil AR, so it already has rice in it.  He is still spitting up, not as much but a decent amount, so I  thought I might start on oatmeal cereal sometime soon to see if it helps.  I am not sure, though, if it is too soon.  Any advice is welcome!  TIA!

Agree.  Our pedi actually suggested we start a little before his 4 month appointment (we went with 3.5 months) so that we could discuss how he did.  She by no means made it sound like we definately needed to, but said it would be okay if we did.

  • The thing about AR is that even with meds or thicker formula they will still spit up.  The thing you are trying to help with is the pain.  that is where the meds usually come into play.  DS1 had bad AR and got supplimented with Enfamil AR also.  He was on meds till 10 months.  He still went though at least 4 outfits a day till he was 14 months.  He was self feeding regular table food then.  DS2 is a spitter, but not upset by it so we don't do anything.  Nothing will stop a spitter.

  • Our pedi gave us the OK at 3.5 mos. She had more than doubled her birthweight, was showing interest, no tongue thrust, etc. And she has AR, so it couldn't hurt to try. She's now on fruits and veggies, eating like a pro.
