Why am I so sleepy at 30 weeks?

Hey Im a new mommy to be and am just so damn sleepy. I feel like I need to sit down and just nap the whole day away. I have in fact done that a few times. Im going to bring it up to my ob doc but its kinda freaking me out a little. Any other of you mommies have had this need sleep 24-7 thing? oh and I am 30 weeks and 4-5 days

Re: Why am I so sleepy at 30 weeks?

  • This hasn't happened so much to me this pregnancy until lately but I'm also almost 36 weeks (with LO measuring almost 38 weeks). But with DD I was tired ALL of the time... I would pass out asleep at the kitchen table while doing things. LOL

  • Yes, I want to just sleep the rest of my pregnancy.  On the weekends I take 2 hour naps.

It doesn't help that I dreamed I was going into labor last night, then I started thinking about all my 'to-do' things (mostly for my 8 yr old) and couldn't go back to sleep.  I am SO exhausted....I don't care if there are dishes in the sink, I'm laying down when I get home.  DH has to wash them or they will sit there (gross I know, but I don't have energy).  If he wasn't there, I'd just throw them away...haha

  • I felt really tired last week too but I slept in over the weekend and took naps throughout the day. This week has been better. Im not as tired as first trimester but a lot more tired than 2nd trimester.
  • Third trimester you get just as tired as you were during the first one.... normal.

  • I'm a new mommy-to-be as well (32 weeks and 5 days), and I have read that you can get extremely tired in the third trimester. I understand how you feel, I think I could sleep 24 hours a day-haha!
  • Third tri is very tiring. Totally normal. Your hormones are changing as you prepare for labor, and your body is tired from lugging around the extra weight. Nap when you can.

  • Being tired is totally normal for third tri. However, you could also have low iron (anemia) which makes fatigue worse. I feel like I have more energy since I have been taking an iron supplement - per my doctor's recommendation. I feel tired now, but not exhausted, dizzy, and weak like I did before I found out I was anemic. I would definitely bring it up to your OB at your next appt.

  • According to my yoga instructor, who's also a doula, there's a growth spurt between 28 and 32 weeks. I was tired a lot during this time. It's gotten better in the past couple weeks but I know my energy is not nearly where it was a few months ago.
