i don't think dh & i want to have it done. just feels like 1 more thing to worry about, you know? besides, it's out of our control, and i don't think that we would terminate if something were wrong.
my drs office doesnt offer them, so no we didnt have one. We did get bloodwork and while we would not terminate either, if there was something that came up we wanted to have the weeks before the baby was born to read up on the disability and so we would be more prepared when the baby arrived...
::raises hand:: me! We don't have any risk factors, and the results would not make a difference for us anyways. Many times insurance doesn't cover it if you are under 35. Although I am jealous of those that do because they get an extra u/s.
We are not, and we are not getting the AFP test either. Any positive results would not change our mind about not terminating... and there are false positives which would put us through a lot of stress. So we are not doing them.
We are however doing the 20-week growth ultrasound.
we didnt do it. seemed silly to spend the extra money (and insurance) on something that wouldn't change anything for us. the risks of false positives and follow up procedures was definitely not something we were willing to take on.
we were happy with our decision, and our Dr. was helpfull in giving us the pros/cons about not/having it done.
GL with whatever you decide.

My ins wouldn't cover the extra ultrasound and really, the only reason I wanted to do it was to see the baby again. I'm not having the 2nd trimester screening for the same reasons you mentioned. It would be our luck that we would have a false positive.
