Trouble TTC

*waves* Intro and Some ?s

Here I am! I'll try to keep my intro short and sweet - TTC since May 2009, finally saw my ob/gyn yesterday. Did an ultrasound and prelim dx me with PCOS due to cysts on my ovaries. I DO ovulate but it's late and not regular. In the past year I've had a couple long cycles (42 days) but mainly in the 30 - 35 range.

Set up an appointment with an RE which is in 2 weeks.

 Here are my questions:

1) For ladies with PCOS - I am reading conflicting information about Clomid. Some say it works and some say it doesnt. Is this one of the first steps that an RE will take (if there is no male factor)?

2) I'm bringing my DH to the first appointment. Will they do the SA right away or schedule seperate?

3) For any Michigan ladies (Metro Detroit specific) - Any recommendations on REs? Any one go to MCFC (Michigan Comprehensive Fertility Center)?

TIA! Looking forward to getting to know you ladies :)

  • Hello and welcome!  I'm actually from Plymouth so we're neighbors :)

I am actually seeing Dr. Jones at MCFC and I really like him a lot.  He is very proactive (does thorough blood work and cultures more than my previous RE) and always answers all of my questions.  My sister actually saw him out of the Clinton Twp office and just had my nephew in June on her 2nd cycle of injects + IUI (and she is 40).

MH came with me to our first appt at MCFC but we had already had our SA done from our previous RE so I can't answer that question for you.  Chances are, they'll have him come back to give his sample, but maybe not.  Who are you going to be seeing?

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about MCFC, too :)

  • Hello and welcome!

    1) Clomid is a mixed bag for women with PCOS. I responded, weakly, my first cycle on it and didn't at all my second cycle on a higher dose. But, your RE will likely try you on at least one cycle. Just make sure you're being well-monitored.

    2) My DH had to schedule it separately.

Trying to grow our family with both fertility treatments and adoption since March 2009
    IUIs#1-4 = BFN, IVF#1 = c/p, IVF#2 = OHSS, FET#1=BFP

Love & luck to my 3TC girls. Congrats to Omega-The boys are here!
If there's one thing I've learned while waiting my turn,
it's that in each life some rain falls but you also get some sun.
After 2 years & 2 losses, our little man arrived 8-2011.
  • Samm - I will be going to see Dr. Jones so that is great to here the information about him!! I am going to the Dearborn office to start, but I may end up trying to see him at Novi too as I am in Livonia so both are close to me.

This whole process is a little new and scary so I am happy to have someplace to ask questions and a good referall on the RE.

    :)

  • Hi! and welcome

    1.  I think this depends on what your situation is.  My lining is really thin, so we didn't use Clomid and went to Femara to start out.  They did ask if we wanted to start with IUIs but since insurance doesn't cover that, we are just doing the meds first.

     2.  I brought DH to the first appointment and they scheduled his SA that week

  • Hi and welcome!

I can only answer one of your questions.  I brought MH to our first RE appt and I was so glad I did.  I want him to be involved as much as I can with this whole process.  They scheduled his SA at that appt.
