3rd Trimester

Stop Working Early

How many of you are asking the doctor to take you off work before your due date? I am scheduled for an induction at 39 weeks. What are my chances of having my doctor take me off work at 38 weeks?

Re: Stop Working Early

  • I am actually going to be asking my Dr at my appt on Friday next week, which will be my 34 wk appt. With DD, I went off at 37 weeks, and thought I could go the same time this time around. I am just soooo tired and have no energy at all. The Dr will put me on, you just have to give the Dr a good reason and tell them you can't perform your job as needed.

  • I'm scheduled for a c-section on Wed Oct 6th.  Wed Sept 29th will be my last day at work.  My job gives up to 2 weeks of STD before your due date.  I don't need a note from my dr.  I would think it couldn't hurt to ask though!

  • Here in CA we are eligible for disability 4 weeks before our due date, and I plan on doing that (working through 36 weeks), BUT I've been having sciatica issues and my desk job isn't helping it at all... my OB said that if it continues, she can prescribe stronger medicines (currently, Tylenol is helping, thank God) but that she'd need to take me out of work to do so.

  • Tomorrow is my last day at work and my c-section is on Wednesday, I have 2 days off work before LO comes.

  • I feel good, so I'm going to keep working.  If I didn't, all I would have to do is let my boss know and he'd understand.

besides, if I asked my poor OB, who's due the same day as I, has 3 little girls at home, worked overnight delivering 4 moms and then had her office hours the next day, to please write me a note, she'd probably laugh in my face. LOL

Depending on your company's policy you may not get paid for this time or it may cut down the amount of time you can take off after the baby is here.

  • Don't you have to have a medical reason - that's if you're using STD? I've been on bedrest for more than 2 weeks, and I have a scheduled c/s for next week. I had originally planned to stop working this Friday (and use vacation time for my last week), but it didn't work out that way.
  • I was going to work until the end, but as of today (38.5 weeks) my doctor wanted me to stop and I thought it sounded like a darn good idea, so yesterday was officially my last day.
  • My company gives 2 weeks STD before your EDD or scheduled c/s.  My c/s is scheduled for 11/4 so my last day of work is 10/21, my company has a great policy.
